Okay, so I've been looking to buy a new PS3 because I've been a big fan of the Playstation since the PS1 back in God knows when.

I've been thinking of buying a 60GB PS3 because I heard it has WiFi capabilities which allows you to go online (after buying an Ethernet cable of course) without having to connect to a PC. Of course there is the new 80GB PS3 as well.

So I have just two questions. Should I wait until January/Feburary of next year to buy a new PS3 and should I get the 60GB or the new 80GB console?

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

The longer you wait, the less and less likely chance that you're going to be able to get your hands on the 60 gb PS3 because Sony has discontinued the 60 gb version and replaced it with the 80 gb version.

Whether to get the 60 or 80 gb version depends on how important backward compatibility is to you. If you absolutely need backward compatibility for almost all PS2 games, then get the 60 gb because it has the emotion engine, which was used to run PS2 games. If backward compatibility isn't all that important to you, then get the 80 gb. The 80 gb uses software emulation to play PS2 games, so of course, if programmers haven't written the software emulation for a game, it won't be playable on the 80 gb PS3. The bright side is that most PS2 games can be played on the 80 gb. The 80 gb comes with Motostorm, so for 500 bucks, you get an extra 20 gb and Motorstorm, but you give up the emotion engine.

I would wait until 2008 to see if the price goes down and then it would depend on how you are going to use the PS3 for the memory size. If you are just going to use it for games the the 60GB would be fine, but if you are going to use it for more such as movies and photos then go with the 80GB.

Well do you want to play now or later? The 60 and the 80GB units are the same it's just the 80GB stores more games. The WiFi is cool.

Get the 60GB wifi. You can go online anywhere. My freind has a TV head unit in his car (obviously using a DC converter to AC). He can run the PS3 from the car and connect to the net on the move (as long as in range of WiFi)

Wait till after xmas. will be cheaper !

get a 60gb because it has full backwards compatability and the 80gb had limited compatability. the best thing you could do is get a 60gb and upgrade the hdd to a 120 gb

Well if your anything like me I would jump on it now. I bought the 80 GB and am very happy. But now with Christmas you have all those deals. And if you do get it the best game is definetly Assassin's Creed.

Depends on if you want to wait and save some money.

I say, if it's in your budget, go for the 60 GB.
