When you think Muslim...do you think "Crazy person who is going to kill me"?

When you think Catholic...do you think "Mary worshipper"?

When you think Pentecostal...do you think "Holy roller"?

When you think Mormon...do you think "Polygamist"?

When you think Wicca...do you think "Devil worshipping witch"?

Just think for a second. If you have said yes to any of these, do you realize you're just as bad as teens in a highschool with their "cliques"? We all want the same thing. Peace. Why can't you just put your differences beside you and realize that most likely what you think of others is wrong?

Pentecostals are a Christian Church. Google it, or youtube it...I'm sure there are videos of Pentecostal services online.

No - I don't think any of those things. However, I find labels pretty handy. I like to know what's in the can before I open it.

We use labels because they're easy, and we're lazy. It saves time. For instance, if someone tells me that they're mormon, I can basically end our conversation right there and save myself some time (that was a joke...HA Ha ha ha....). Are labels wrong in most cases, yes (I think especially with religion, as religion doesn't dictate 100% of how a person is). But still, it's human nature to need to classify things and fit things into categories. It's all about the idea of "community", if you're not part of my "community", then I can already assume certain things about you & save myself the time of dealing with you.

Occasionally, labelers see certain members of the above categories acting in a way that, to them, only backs up the stereotype. Not trying to say labels are right, but some do have truth attatched to them. It's just that people think "If it applies to this person, it applies to all." That's just human.

Some people just don't have a flexible or inquisitive thought capacity. Things have to be relegated, simplified, generalized, stereotyped for many people to understand complex issues.

So as soon as you see a sweeping generalization or label, you can be sure that the person who believes it just isn't very smart (or isn't very educated yet).

Tolerance is in short supply. Humans seem to have a coping mechanism that divides the world into US and THEM.. It is wrong and inaccurate, but we do it. We will have to fight this urge and learn to accept each other or we will be doomed.

Wanting peace and following the ONE true God are two separate things. Yes, we all want peace, but there is only one TRUE religion and that's Christianity. The others give false hope. Jesus died for us so that we may fellowship with the Father and have life everlasting.

Meaning.....????

I know that Pentecostals are Christians..... I never said they weren't.

Labels are for cans. Do I look like a can to you?

Actually, I'm afraid we are all guilty of generalizations. That's just human nature.

To add to your list of "when you"s:

When you think agnostic, do you think "Fence-straddling time-wasting purposeless aimless dreamer?"

When you think atheist, do you think "Amoral, blasphemous, heretical fascist?"

Agreed that labels are a bad thing, perpetuated by ignorance.
