I think you mean Perthes disease. It's an inflammation around the head of the femur (thigh bone). Painful, but common.

In Perthe's disease the blood supply to the hip joint is compromised, which, especially in rapidly growing children (mostly boys), means the hip joint cannot develop properly. This leads to pain in the legs and limping. More commonly only one joint is affected Most doctors believe the condition is self healing, and simple treatment is best, which consists of resting the joint and pain relief when required. However, if the child's mobility is being badly affected or the joint is very painful, longer term immobilisation in plaster or surgically improving the way the joint aligns may be required. Try not to worry too much as research shows at least half of all cases will get better without these treatments. I hope this helps.
