most people have no comprehension of how or why the Atkins diet works. with out getting into the specifics lets just say that it's near impossible for a person with a high amount of body fat to decrease the body fat with a high carb intake. when the body fat is high insulin sensitivity is low so nutrient uptake in the muscle cell is low. carbs cause the greatest increase in blood sugar and insulin levels then fats then finally proteins. exercise increases insulin sensitivity so when a low carb diet is combined with exercise insulin sensitivity can be increased much faster then with a moderate or high carb diet.
in order for the muscle cell to become more efficient at using fatty acids for energy IS must be increased the faster this occurs the faster the body can actually start utilizing fatty acids for energy. the Atkins diet is not the best method of eating for the lifespan but it is a very good short term tool to use to get body fat under control while other lifestyle and diet changes are being made. consuming a high amount of carbs when trying to reduce the body fat is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

99% of those that bash the Atkins diet have never tried it and don't really "know" how effective it can be. they simply recite what they have read and heard from various media sources. unfortunately when it comes to diet and fitness most people talk out of their a s s e s about a subject they truly know nothing about.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Atkins does work, but it's not all "meat and fat".

You need to read the book so you know how to do it properly. Done as written, Atkins is very healthy.

I believe that all of those specialty diets work for certain people. Other people they aren't going to work on. I think that if you were to diet, do it the right way. Moderate excersise, eat right according to the food pyramid and keep healthy habits ( i.e-going to bed on time, no smoking, etc )

It's honestly up to the person. By the way-lol I wouldn't personally do the Adkins diet cause when he died, he had cloggy arteries...shows you what his diet was doing to him

One can lose weight but that's mainly because you are cutting out another food group completely- it is not healthy and when you start eating any carbs again, then the weight will come on again, plus more!!!! And cholesterol will sky rocket, not a good way to lose weight at all. Of course the best way is a balanced diet and exercise

i dont think so...
no.. you need to eat a balanced diet to lose weight!
trust me! people who starve themselves or who
go on EXTREME diets just end up gaining
the weight back and more! to lose weight you
need to eat a breakfast, lunch & dinner!
& just make sure what your eating is healthy!
but just make sure your portions aren't that
big! give yourself a reasonable amount.. and you
will do fine :) also.. if you want to lose weight..
i know that if you join a sport you will lose alot
of weight.. because you are burning the calories
and having fun doing it with a friend :) its like killing
2 birds with one stone! ( just a saying.. i'm against
killing birds lol ) but yea! i hope i helped :) good luck!

Atkins killed himself with his diet, and did untold damage to millions of others who used his diet. Suggest you look into the South Beach diet...it was developed by a group of cardiologists (heart specialists). It is a very healthy and effective diet plan.

It's bascially just replacing one source of energy with another.
