and go looking door to door-it seems like a waste when job openings are now listed on line....I don't know what to do. I have applied on line for numerous jobs that I am qualified for-but no calls.....

I would try giving the companies you are interested in a call.

I have found that the Monsters and Hotjobs of the world, tend to depersonalize people. If you are looking for a sales Job, get the name of the VP of sales and give him/her a call. Marketing, VP Marketing/ etc.

In most companies, the VPs are more than happy to let HR know that they might have a candidate for them.

Just call up, and tell the VP/Director that you are very interested in the company and the position. Most will initially be a little put off, because people don't do that much anymore, but if you are good on the phone, you will be giving yourself a head start on other applicants.

Don't call HR first, they are conditioned to process you like paperwork and will try to stop you from speaking to the real decision makers. Find out who the direct report is and talk to that person.

Otherwise you are just hoping that the HR person at the company is doing their Job and will find your Resume in the list of hundreds they have on Monster or HJ.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Maybe its time you start your own business. Though not a quick solution. All the best with the job search.
