I have to agree with some of the posters. I am in the Army, almost 13 years so far. I just got through being a Airborne Instructor and now I am an instructor teaching Navy, Air Force, and National Guard soldiers. I cannot count the number of soldiers I have seen walking coming to us and walking around with pen sized holes still in there ears. Most of the Airborne students were fresh out of Basic. So I would have to say that the majority of MEPS will ship someone and they will be fine inprocessing.
Besides, a lot of rules are gone now concerning recruits and a lot of waivers for things too.....come on it's wartime & we are hurting for recruits.

Gaugings generally will not "close" like earring holes will, and even those will not close up after being pierced for a long enough period of time. You need to take the gauging plugs out immediately if you have not already done so. Next up, talk to your recruiter. Gauged earlobes can be a safety issue..these are basically open holes in an ear lobe big enough to slip something through! They also look unprofessional for military members. I am guessing you may have to see a doctor to close the holes for you..do it now rather than waiting so you will be healed and have no issue.

are you saying the earing is still in your ear? if so hahaha no the army will not tolerate that. Now if you earing is out and there is just a hole there, I don't know the regulation on that one but how in the world would you close it up? I wouldn't think it would be a big deal to let it grow back.

I don't know about the Army, but I went through AF basic with a guy who had pretty big holes in his ears. he could've easily put his finger through them. And then I went to tech school and now work with a couple guys with holes you could put a pen through. But the Army may be different.

ok since you have til june 14th. just take them out now and let the holes close on their own, you should be "good to hook". i tell all my Future Soldiers if they have them to just take them out. However, if the holes are way bigger than the diameter of a pen then the MEPS here will DQ them.
the best advice i can give you is to run this question by your recruiter. but if youve passed the MEPS already and you had them then i wouldnt see the problem.

That may be accurate. I know you are not allowed to have any piercings in the military (ladies, 1 hole in each ear) so they may frown upon your gauged ears. You may want to call the office where you enlisted and double check with them.

No it will be fine a good friend of mine in my unit had gauged ears. He can still fit pens through both ears 3 years later so I would say it wont be a problem.

Having an open ear-hole won't keep you out of basic, but it WILL draw lots of negative attention from your D.I., and I'll let you imagine the nature of, and how unpleasant that will be, on top of what is, by design, an already unpleasant experience. I'd let them close up, and with the length of time you have, they will.

Hmm..
I think you might have to get your ears closed up if the gauge is any bigger then a small bit bigger then normal pierced ears.
My friend Brian has to get his closed before he even goes off to Basic.
He also has to get the tubes removed from his ears.
Which is dumb.
But oh well.

no, gauged ears ares NOT allowed. they will have to be removed all throughout Basic and Schooling and afterwards, you may NOT wear them on base(even out of uniform).
as for the diameter of the opening, it may be an issue if the MEPS doctors deem them too large, no, you will NOT be allowed to ship to basic training.
