The problem is, there are about 30 items and I don't know which ones to enable!? It takes forever and a day for my computer to start up.. It even freezes up sometimes. I have purchased Norton 360 but it hasn't stopped the problem of the freeze ups or start ups?? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated:o)

If you hold the shift button while you start your computer it bypasses a lot of your start-up processes. Otherwise go to "run" type in MSCONFIG and from there you should be able to select which processes open upon start up. Sort the list by name and don't touch anything that is listed as "SYSTEM" but for the most part anything appearing as your log-in ID can be turned off with the exception of "taskmng" and one other I can't recall at the moment.

If I was at home I could help you a bit more but I have limited access here at work so I hope this helps in some small way.

Get yourself this program "WinPatrol" http://www.winpatrol.com/ to figure the programs that start with your system. It gives as well the possibility of stopping the programs.

Having your PC running at such as slow speed might also be a sing of a virus, Trojan or other malicious software in it. I recommend you, besides your antivirus, to get some antispyware software and run a scan.

Last thing. Although the 360 antivirus of Norton is quite fast than version below it, it consumes as well a lot of resources, if i where you i would also give a look to it.

Hi,
the first thing you have done wrong is by using Norton's 360 this will slow your system up even more, to uninstall Norton's you have to go to there Web site and download a tool (it's that bad), just download a free copy of CCleaner (link http://ccleaner.com/ ) and then run it this will clean your system of all your temp files for you, you can even use it to disable and edit your start menu programs as well, after your system is clean then defrag your hard drive, this should sort your problem, and please go and ask for your money back for Norton's 360. hope this all helps you.

You shouldn't touch any ones where the publisher is Microsoft Corporation. Disable any startup items from programs that you can just start manually. Examples are Winamp Agent etc

You sould not diasble your antivirus/antispyware software.

Well one of your mistakes was to put norton on your computer, the next problem you will have is to get it off your computer.
