We moved into a new house and all of a sudden I am itching all over. I have red bumps that appear instantly with a dull itch. There are a lot of attic doors that have that pink insulation on the inside of them. I was wondering if it might contain acrylic because I am allergic to acrylic materials. Can't be bites, we have no mites or fleas. Bumps appear instantly. Any suggestions?

Your description of the insulation in your attic resembles that of fibreglass. Fibreglass is a man-made product that is composed of natural ingredients such as sand and recycled products such as window glass and bottles. The ingredients are melted and spun to create small strands of fibreglass that together form "glass wool". Some people may experience a skin or lung reaction after contact with fibreglass. The reaction should cease after a period when contact has ceased.

Holy cow.... You mentioned the attic already HAS insulation. Is the paper for the original insulation on the same side as the ceilign below? In other words if you were standing looking up at the ceiling and had x-ray vision would you see the paper? If so thenthe original insulation is installed correctly. Now you want to add more. Good idea. Go to the stroe and simply buy "unfaced" (no paper) insulation. Lay it over the top of the existing insulation. GLoves, and a MASK especially the mask are important. Regards, Eric

Fiberglass presents problems to people who are sensitive especially in the airways, and physical contact. If they are exposed, the particles are in the air and if you breathe it in, it can cause severe problem. They should not be showing at all. Make sure that your bedroom have an air purifier for this reason and close off the insulation.

Pink would be fiberglass insulation which would be unlikely to be an allergen. Fiberglass is just that, and I have never heard of anyone allergic to glass. Mold, maybe?

That is fiberglass! Don't get anywhere near it. It's tiny particles of glass that should never be touched or inhaled. Call in a professional to wrap it with plastic or otherwise seal it.

ANYONE can be ALLERGIC to ANYTHING.
Do skin sensitivity tests, to make sure of the suspected material.
