Most born again Christians are not in a cult but it seems that a few might be.
The English word cult comes from the Latin cultus meaning worship.
In one definition, any religion can be considered a cult.
However the most common current definition of cult is a religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
According to the Cult Information Centre, every cult can be defined as a group having all of the following five characteristics:
1. It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members.
2. It forms an elitist totalitarian society.
3. Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma.
4. It believes 'the end justifies the means' in order to solicit funds recruit people.
5. Its wealth does not benefit its members or society.

It is not a cult in the same way that we traditionlly think of cults, but it is not a true religion either same as Islam is not a real religion in the traditional sense or definition, but it has many aspects of a cult. I know many BA's who were formally cult members/ If yo research Jesus, who is a Jew, hius teachings were not to create a new religion, but rather to enlighten Jews to the humanistic qualities or G-d's word it becomes clear that the group of Jews who broke from the word of G-d as told by Moses forme da cult around Jesus. Now some of the Born Again's have drifted into the Messianic Jews... and the beat goes on

No, the teaching about Hell is something Christ warned about.
If you love someone, you warn them of potential danger, right? Of course you do.
Jesus spoke of Hell more than many other subjects. He wanted us to be clearly informed of the danger. It is not blackmail at all.
As far as whether or not something is a cult, this is defined by other things.
It is possible though, that your church may be theologically unbalanced. What this means, is an undue emphasis on some particular doctrine over and above all others. There are many things to learn and know. If a church puts a huge emphasis on say, evangelism, and that's all they do, then they ignore other aspects to their own hurt.

No. Jesus actually did teach (John 3) that "no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again," and that "no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." This is basic Christianity, not a cult.
A cult is "a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader."
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cult
The problem is how to understand what it means to be born again. Nicodemus did not understand Jesus' teaching, nor do the evangelical Protestants who have made "born again" their watchword.
Here's what the original Christians wrote:
Tertullian, A.D. 203: "No one can attain salvation without baptism, especially in view of the declaration of the Lord, who says, ‘Unless a man shall be born of water, he shall not have life’" (Baptism 12:1).
Cyprian of Carthage, A.D. 253: "When they receive also the baptism of the Church . . . then finally can they be fully sanctified and be the sons of God . . . since it is written, ‘Except a man be born again of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God’" (Letters 71[72]:1).
Cheers,
Bruce

No we are not. We are trying to bring you true freedom.
Denying the truth will not set you free, excepting the truth will do more for you and set you free.
Excepting the Son of the living GOD, is about forgiveness, and so very much more in this life and the life to come, and all we have to do is except His truth.
What do you really have to lose, by excepting Jesus and believing in the truth, except darkness, fear, pride. God just wants to be your father, and bless you as His child.
You lose nothing, but will gain much.

no, jesus is the truth the life and the way. there are only 2 places to go when you die, heaven or hell, the choice is yours. it's not blackmail, it's a warning, if you don't want to accept him and what he did for you, then you are making the decision to go live with satan, you are sending yourself there. if you decide that you will accept the gift of god, by telling him that you know you sin and you need him to forgive you and you want to live in his kingdom when you die, then that too is your choice also, a cult doesn't allow free will, it doesn't give you the choice. all he's asking is you choose him over hell, it's that simple, yet so many try to complicate it. he created you, and then you say i don't love you and i don't care that you died so my sins can be forgiven, and you can keep your heaven...if someone told you that then you would have to let them go, let them have it their way. he's not asking much...just believe and ask forgiveness. and to live a christian life, all you have to do is love, thats it, and when you mess up, your forgiven. think about it, and try to not twist it so much to make it sound like it's a bad thing. god loves you and all he wants in return is your acceptance. after that, he does the rest, ...think about it.

Cult is in the eye of the beholder.
Within any group, there can be sub-cults.
So, where are you? If you're a Christian, you won't think them a cult. If you're not a Christian, think whatever you want.
