Garmin makes a set of handheld GPSRs that may do what you want. The page below shows the basic handheld models. You can search around the web page and see more models, too.

The Etrex models say that they are waterproof. I doubt that they will survive an extended dunking, but unless you ride into a lake, you probably won't be out in the kind of weather that will affect these much.

To be useful on a bike, you may want to buy the map CD and load it onto the unit. I have an eTrex with the maps of the US on it, and it works well for travelling. The map shows interstates and state highways, routes, etc. It doesn't go down to the level of city streets, or give turn-by-turn directions to get to a given address. Maybe the new stuff can do that. But unless you're a delivery courier, you probably don't need that level of accuracy any way.

As you can see we have a lot of comedians here at the Yahoo. night club. But the thing about the GPS if it does not say explicitly that it can it probably will damage the unit eventually. Like on any electronics they are very sensitive to being wet, or even humidity. The other units design to be used by motorcycle riders are more expensive for that reason.
Is it worth it? you decide.
Good luck

If you are worried about waterproofing put it in an Aqua-bag they design them for mobile phones and gps. Someone mentioned humidity, okay put in a sachet of silica gel so as to absorb any moisture. That's what I have used since 1993, works wonderfully, hope this helps.

In theory it should work, however in practise the tom tom is set up for car or people travelling on roads and as a result the tom tom will try and fit your location to the nearest road. This will result in a lot of confusion as it may hop from one road to another.
