I realise that Jack Chick is a complete nut but after reading this:

http://www.chick.com/articles/frpg.asp I have to ask: Do religious people seriously consider fantasy roleplay to be a start to the slippery slope towards devil worship?

I'm serious, does anyone think that even kids are gullible enough to believe that you can go from table-top games to casting spells, etc?

sly phy: Oh don't worry, society has pretty much fallen into a huge pit of geekery. Not that that's a bad thing :D

The same people who have a problem with Harry Potter have a problem with D&D because of characters are casting spells and that can be eqauted with both witchcraft and satanism. Nevermind that it is a fantasy because once you start playing or reading about casting spells it will lead a person to actually want to become a witch or wizard. Some even believe that even reading about it will lead a person into temptation. I do not subscribe to this point of view and find it tough to comprehend. I fail to see how exactly playing a fantasy roleplaying game or any other roleplaying game would cause a mass exodus of people to head towards devil worship. It's not like they are able to turn people into turnips or frogs. People are going to make decisions to do whatever it is they want to in life and about what they want to believe in. If a person decides to turn to witchcraft, it's their decision is it not? They may have made that decision whether they were influenced by playing D&D or reading Harry Potter or they could have been influenced by something or someone else. People need to make their own decisions and it is up to them to discover whether the decision is right for them or not.

No, it's fun. My brothers did it all the time, and lots of people love WOW. Some women are irritated by it because it takes time away from your partner, but if you can play together, that's awesome. Find someone who likes to. As long as you can moderate your time, who cares? Lots of women waste their time sitting around reading Nicholas Sparks novels... (no offense read what you like.) I think you should do whatever it is that you enjoy doing. There are lots of other role playing options too.

If you are looking for a fun role playing experience, check out One More Time One Less Lie. It is a Harry Potter role playing message board. It is a lot of fun. There are still a lot of canon characters that are not taken, and the plot is really interesting. I recommend that anyone interested in meeting new people, playing fun characters, and making up cool plots check it out. You don't have to play any of the canon characters if you don't want to. The rules are pretty simple, and everyone is really nice and helpful. If you want to check it out, stop by: http://onelesslie.proboards.com/ or google One more Time one Less Lie.

My husband and all the boys he role-played with as a kid are still friends. They are typical guys. They still like games like D&D, but play Halo and other more modern games too. None are drug addicts. None have commited suicide. They are just a great bunch guys in their thirties. My husband says that as a child role-playing helped him learn to do math quickly in his head, be creative and work well with others. All the guys have families and good jobs. They are not sad, lonely virgins! They have cute wives, girlfriends and in a couple cases, boyfriends. They all have college educations and none has yet to go mad and sell his soul. I'll keep you updated though, just in case. ;)

Sophia: Geeks don't get laid? That will be news to my husband. I am a game geek groupie and I am not alone. Nerds make many girls purr. Le geek, se chic. (C'mon, when you were a girl you didn't want to jump the professer on Gilligan's Island? How about Grissim on CSI?)

He did not look very Presidential making the scream but it was only the beginning of the end. The man did not have the temperament to win a national election much less lead the country. I think that people realized that about the same time the scream went down. Pure coincidence.

D&D is a good thing. It helps you examine your own psyche. It is a sort of self improving psychology that is completely NOT religious or irreligious.

I'd have to say yes, because it morphs young men with evolutionarily desirable intelligence into geeks who will probably not get laid very often. It's bad for the gene pool.

it's astonishing to realize there are people like that in the world, for my part, I've played D&D since the early 80's and regard it as a relaxing way to pass time with friends and an outlet for the imagination......
