We know that climate change has occurred in the past, we also know that climate has been relatively stable over the past 10000 years.

I believe that this relatively stable climate has allowed human civilisations to flourish over this time. Climate change, hotter or colder, by more than a few degrees would have disasterous effects on our society.

Should we be focussing on how we can manipululate the earths climate to maintain (as close as possible) temperatures and sea levels or is this beyond our capabilities and therefore we must learn to adapt ?.

Man's domain reached from the deserts in Africa to well above the arctic circle. A change in just a couple degrees will have no impact on man's abilities.

While many may not like this answer, it is factual.

We can manipulate our temperature by limiting aircraft and reducing ground sourced GHG emissions.

Grounding aircraft over the US in 2001 (9-11) showed an immediate change in temperature (regionally, diurnally) of over 1 degree C (Travis, 2001).

The attempt by governments to massively increase flights (e.g., 2008 economic globalization treaties, will lead to a doubling of flights every 8-10 years until 2050, if left unchecked), could have disastrous consequences.

It has to be a combination of both.

We can't stop global warming at any manageable cost. We can slow it down and adapt to the remaining change.

The proper balance between these is a worthy topic of debate.

Whether it's real, of course, isn't. Which is the EXACT point of these conservatives:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

The belief that humans can alter climate change is naive.

We should focus on preparing for a new climate.

ya can't adapt
not all species can adapt (included animals and plants) :(
but we can fix it
and they are fixing it :)
focus on the damage we have done!!!!
a lot of people don't like the damage, the damage could kill us!!
mankind is stupid = caused climate change = ya can't adapt = backfire = oh no!!
