I will post a reply I just posted to someone else, just to give you some insight on what Global Warming actually entails. It's more about the survival of our planet and species really, not just about the weather.
Any time you seriously deplete trees which clean up the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is a danger to the climate.
Don't forget, over the centuries the population keeps on multipying, doubling and tripling even, all the while trees have been cut down to make room for civilizations.
The rainforest was the major "air filter" for our planet, but it's been serioiusly depleted too. So as the number of people rise and create pollution, the number of trees needed has been extremely lacking to keep up with them, simply put.
This is why you have the "tree huggers" as people love to call them, who know the value of our trees, and why you see many urban areas actively planting new trees anywhere and everywhere that they can.
Trees are essentially the "LUNGS OF THE EARTH" and just as we INHALE and EXHALE, so do they, except they do so in reverse, and inhale our carbon dioxide and return oxygen for us, so together we are one.
Sadly people don't get this and don't realize the excess CO2 goes into our oceans, which are also a filter and pull the CO2 down to the bottom of the ocean where it is "stored" on the floor of the ocean.
Unfortunately, the ocean is being forced to take on much more than it is capable of processing beyond a level which keeps ocean life healthy and thriving, which is why fish, reefs and organisms which all work together to ensure survival of ocean species, are also threatened.
But it's not just carbon dioxide that is a danger, it's all the other chemicals and toxins which are carcinogenic (cancer causing) that are dumped in both the air and our waters too. This is why pollution in general is a danger, and why everyone should be on board with the "global warming" issues. It's more about keeping our planet clean and functioning and let's face it ALIVE so it can give us air, water and food.
Hope that answers some of your questions.

I think it is an exaggeration of data in order to tax the American (and global) workers to pay for research and development for GIM (Al Gore's company). Since he has been part of the government (VP) and has many ties in the government, his company will get the grants from the tax payer's money. This is an unethical business practice by using human's most primal instinct, fear. Scare tactics are the big thing today, as we saw with the WMD in Iraq. Every research company on this planet pays for their own R&D, why should we pay for GIM's?
The planet has warmed about 0.6 degrees over the past 147 years of recorded data (basically, since the end of the Little Ice Age). Read carefully to see the difference in this upcoming statement, "the Little Ice Age ended around 1860 because the cooling trend ended, not because of it getting warmer". It sounds like the same thing, but there is a slight difference and that slight difference is the reason they declared an end to the Little Ice Age. Scientists of today are using the data since 1860, which is not legit because it was still much colder in 1860 than before the LIA began. Anyone who took a Western Civ course will know how they used to have lush environments all over England for growing grapes for wine and that Greenland was green (for the most part, much greener than today). The agricultural lifestyle was the main source of income for many countries until the LIA, which made the environment too cold to support many of the plants they grew.
Bottom line, I want alternative fuels and electric cars. I just don't want to be taxed for their development. Just so I can pay $3,000 a year in taxes for them, $30,000 for the vehicle, and $2.50 a gallon for their fuel (if applicable). That's too much.

I will be "interesting" to see how bad things have to get before the average person realizes what we are up against.
"It will take a moon shot or Manhattan Project type effort to fix this". Actually it's much bigger. Those two projects were focused on doing one (1) thing. An enormous effort on building "one" bomb, shooting off "one" rocket.
For this project, every fossil power plant, every building, every car, every distribution chain, every business, every system dependent on fossil fuels in the western world needs to be fixed. And not just an add-on type fix. A deconstruct and re-engineer type of fix.

Debates give equal time to both sides, unlike the "global warming" issue.

There are many ways to reduce carbon, however politicians focus on just one way - raise taxes.
The reason why governments are pushing the deadline closer is because it looks like the Earth is starting to enter into a cool era. Politicians will lose the ability to tell us how we must pay more for "global warming" when it's 10 deg below average.

If you believe in God, then you know that He will not allow humans to destroy humanity.
If you don't believe in God, I suggest you start evolving to survive.
