Kare♥Bear -- That's a "no", is it?

2007-12-12 23:14:56 · update #1

Peasoup -- your quotation is *after* the angel says "This is what's *going* to happen". And Mary precedes it by "I am the handmaid of the Lord", which indicates obedience. The angel did not *ask*.

Nobody consents to rape.

Novelist Philip Wylie referred to it as The Great Rape in one of his books.

YES... The Blessed Virgin Mary consented without any hesitation whatsoever to the stranger Archangel Saint Gabriel advances on behalf of God the Holy Ghost... So Jesus is the illegitimate child of Saint Joseph. The Virgin Mary was never married to God the Holy Ghost, either! She was a single mother when she was birthing God the Son Jesus Christ! This is the only reason why the Early Church Fathers came up with the brilliant idea to keep Mary a virgin for ever otherwise the morality of the whole affair would be very, very questionable and most likely unacceptable because God the Son Jesus Christ would be vulgar b-a-s-t-a-r-d, but the perpetual virginity idea made Christianity to fly!!!

Deuteronomy 23:2 (KJV) A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

On top of all that God the Son Jesus Christ turned out to be a vicious killer of innocent children just like his God the Father in Heaven, or is it God the Holy Ghost his real Father? Anyway, both of them are dedicated killers (Acts 5:1-11)!

Revelation 2:23 (NIV) (Jesus says) I WILL STRIKE HER CHILDREN DEAD. Then ALL THE CHURCHES WILL KNOW that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

Luke 19:27 (Jesus was very excited telling this story!) But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them–bring them here and kill them in front of me.

Only a blood thirsty tyrant would talk like that! Christians demand a much higher standard of morality from their clergy, and the preachers, and the politicians than from Jesus Christ! That's hypocrisy! Why is it that in Christianity everything is KILLING… KILLING… KILLING… and more KILLING…??? Isn’t Christianity a Barbaric religion just like Islam? Christians hide the fact that all Jewish boys under the age of 2 were slaughtered because of the birth of Jesus! Jesus got away because his adoptive father Saint Joseph had a dream to scram to Egypt in the middle of the night! All the sugar coating in Christianity is so repulsive! Can any Christian understand?

I believe she consented prior to conception.

Remember what happened to Zacharias...he doubted the same angel and was made mute for nine months.

I'm sure had Mary copted an attitude, things would Not have gone well with her. But it is a moot point...God chose her knowing how she would react.

If you believe in "Miracle of virgin birth" then there is no need of being impregnated by the Holy Spirit! It is a human concept where pregnancy is must.

Holy Spirit (Gabriel) just informed her about the God blessings and birth of Jesus. The rest is human imaginations.

Sex is an animal act which cannot be attributed to God and his angels. Jesus was made / created by God through his miracle.

Who was pregnated when Adam was created?????

Please read the account. The angel announced to Mary that she WOULD become pregnant by holy spirit. She then said let it be so. (or words to that effect. I don't have my bible in front of me).
========

Luke 1:31 - the angel said to Mary "look you WILL conceive in your womb and give birth to a son and you are to call his name Jesus."

verse 38 - "Look, Jehovah's slave girl! May it take place with me according to your declaration."

Who knows. Maybe the angel had been going to many other women and they all protested?

If you're looking to impugn god's morality, there's plenty of fodder in the old testament. This part seems rather innocuous.

Now seriously, can any 13 year old consent? It's statutory rape. It's important that if the perpetrator is over 18 that he's prosecuted by the law.

That´s an interesting question which I hadn´t thought about. I know very little about the bible or about religion to give a qualified answer, but nonetheless, you make a good point.

God chose her. Read below from Luke 1:

29Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

34"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

35The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[c] the Son of God. 36Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37For nothing is impossible with God."

Well, if you're going by the bible (which you are, if you accept the premise that she was impregnated by the holy spirit), then yes, she did consent. "Let it be done to me according to your word."

Edit: Yes, Gabriel told her what God had planned. Nevertheless, her response reads as consent.
