I am looking to go from DC to Texas and need to take some belongs with me.

I have never ridden on a train before, how do you go?

Hi, I took the Am track from Portland Maine to San Juan Capistrano California, I booked the reservations thru a travel agent. the trip took 3 days, I traveled 1st class it was an awesome trip and would do it again. good luck with your travels.also the porters took care of all luggage;)

you would probably ended going through either Chicago or New Orleans (and changing trains)
you can get more info from the Amtrak website
http://www.amtrak.com
and you can check your luggage with you
plus if you want you can pay extra for sleeper by doing this
your meals on the train are included (if you just booked a coach
seat you would have to pay for your meals on the train

Never mind the Amtrak web site. Confusing and limited.

Call 1-800-USA-Rail and you can speak with a real person after a wait of only a few minutes.
