I understand it to have three basic meanings:

One is to miss the mark, like missing a target with a bow and arrow...

Another is to make crooked that which is straight....

The third meaning is transgressing or going over a line...

Basically it is doing wrong according to some universal law of goodness to God and to your fellow man and to yourself.

That is what conscience is all about.

sin,means to fall short of the perfect standard got set for humankind.when he created adam and eve they were perfect,in body ,mind ,health and spirituality .when they willfully disobeyed god they became imperfect hence sinfull.that is why we today,their descendants,are sinfull.WE inherited sin.ask jws the next time they call.
