I'm in NY and I think that most of the time New Yorkers aren't even paying attention--they are focused on what they're doing/where they're going that this kind of attitude and behavior can convey a harriedness. We are not always yelling at people, although during rush hour you DO see it a lot and we aren't always eating donuts. In general though, it's a fast-paced city, so everyone always seems in a hurry.

yes that is the only thing i dont like about new york every1 is in a hurry to go nowhere my favorite is when your driving an a cabby cuts you off and your at a red light and they lay on the horn or they start swearing and yelling at you what is the point you can go until the light changes anyway, my second favorite is walking in new york everybody is in a rush to cross, you cant cross till the light turns red

It's my experience that a high proportion of New Yorkers go around in a single minded sort of way where they are not paying attention to anyone else. i.e. they expect courtesy but don't give any. They may or may not be in a hurry - just as you find in other large cities but their attitude makes it feel harried.

Yes, no and maybe.
New Yorkers are independent, fast paced and strong willed, but basically good people. That may make us look like we are in a hurry.

New York has very few good donuts, so count me out on that one.

Yes moved from there to Nevada and people view me as impatient as I have the NY arrogance and speed.
Interesting you made the observation
