Put the food in a bowl, he will eat when he gets hungry enough. Dogs learn really fast.

Was there any reason he is hand fed, was it a medical issue or was he just spoiled lol.
The best answer is to exercise him and well, before you feed him, a well run dog is a hungry dog. He will eat from a bowl of you do not give into him OK. He just has to be trained to do it , he thinks eating from your wife's hand is normal and acceptable behavior, he has to be taught it isn't.
He may even go a couple of days without eating and lots of crying and whining, as he knows no different, but do not give in here OK, he will eat when he is hungry. Get your wife to hold some food in her hand and let the dog see her take it to the bowl, get her to place it in the bowl and then walk away. She must not look at the dog, talk to the dog or touch the dog. You both have to work together and be firm. Its going to be hard on your wife, and this is really about re training your wife as much as it is your dog, in the nicest possible way, please take no offense to that comment. Lots of exersice is the key and make sure he is drinking enough.

Have your wife take the food (make it extra special food) and put handfuls in the bowl and encourage the dog to eat from it. Make sure that the dog's tags don't clank on the bowl or that the bowl moves, in case the reason your wife has been handfeeding him is because he was afraid of the bowl for some reason. You don't really give enough info to really understand why the dog isn't eating from a bowl to begin with.

This exact thing happened on that show "It's me or the dog". The wife had been feeding the dog because it wouldnt eat from a bowl. If I remember correctly what she did was heat up his food (not to hot, it was just to make it smell more or something) and she might have used some particular ingredients that dogs like the smell of, I can't really remember, and then she put it on the floor and pretended to eat from it herself (I do that to my dog all the time when he wont eat, it so works), and the dog just started eating it straight away. Good luck.

It will be hard for you and your wife to do it, but this is the method to do:
Put the food in a bowl. Let it there for 20 minutes. If he doesn't eat it, take it away. In the evening put half the quantity in the bowl. If he still doesn't eat it in 20 minutes, take it away. Next morning put again a little food in the bowl, again for 20 minutes. I bet he'll eat something, but if he doesn't, or whatever is left, take it away. Feed again in the evening. Even if he eats the food, take the rest away after 20 minutes and if he doesn't eat it within 20 minutes take it away. In about 3 days your sog will not be spoiled any more.

what the first two people told you is the only way to get your dog to eat from its bowl. If your wife can't stop spoiling it, let her eat from the dogs bowl.

Put the food in a bowl and do not -- NOT -- hand feed him ever again. But it might be harder on your WIFE than on the dog!

Nothing really , just like a child who got used to be spoonfed by his Mom...next time just leave the food in the dogbowl, and if he gets hungry, he will sniff it and then go towards the food and there.....he will eat it finally, ok???
