I could have sworn that deployments for the army were already at 15 months? I am in the army too, but got an email from military.com saying there talking about making it 15? Cause the 173rd is over in afghan and there out there for 15 months. Confused? No one is here to answer my question there in germany.

I know thatunits can be extended but I am saying I thought it was already established for 15 months though, in writing or whatever you want to call it.

Officially, deployments have been 12 months. At least since I enlisted in 1988. Of course there is an unofficial length too. Based on the needs of the Army.

In today's age, it takes more than a hand receipt changeover to replace units in a combat zone. The initial deployment may have been scheduled for 12 months, but because of the current situations, there has been time added to the front and back of those deployments to allow for proper changeovers.

The new deployment length will be changed to 15-18 months to remove the uncertainty of when the deployment will end.

Officially, deployments have been 12 months, with 3 month extensions. Now they are thinking of admitting that they are 15 months from day one..HOWEVER..you can expect the 3 month extensions are still possible(turning into 18 months gone).

Maybe they are talking about making it *officially* 15 months? Orders for my husbands previous deployments always stated 365 days. In our predeployment briefings for this deployment, we were told to expect a 15-18 month deployment. His orders didnt state number of days or months, only "until mission is complete" whatever that means.

I know that my husband will be gone 15 months, but it hasnt been documented as such. So....not sure.
