Dogs can often times be the carrier you and your family got it from. It may be more expensive to actually test the dog than to just treat it outright.

Any dog that does any kind of unusual behaviour out of the blue is usually trying to tell you something, coupled with the trembling i would definatley get him to the vets ASAP

Depends on if you have a neurotic breed like a chihuaha. Some doggies are like that. If you feel your dog's nose and it is cold and wet, it's ok. If the nose is warm and dry, take it to the vet.

my dog is really clever he's sussed that if he looks all pathetic i.e. trembling all my housemates will coo over him and cuddle him to make him warm, dont know if this is the case with your dog?

Maybe he is sick or maybe something made him afraid.
Better take the dog to the vet.
