i'm going on vacation and need to stand in line to hopefully get my passport on time but want to make sure i have the proper documents. i only have a short form birth certificate and need to know if this is acceptable to get a canadian passport

As long as you are over 16 applying for an adult passport, that is fine. If younger than 16, you need the full form.

Just the short form. If you fill your form out online first, it will make the process A LOT faster when you arrive at the passport office. You can probably have it in 5-10 working days max.

The one you have should be okay. By the way, now if you get a birth certificate it isn't plasticized, but mine is. Years ago (I'm older than 30), they did issue plasticized birth certificates. I'm not sure why they stopped because they keep much better. That's what I used when I got my passport..

You need to have an ORIGINAL of the birth certificate, stamped by the issuing body.

If you've plasticized it to keep it from being harmed, you'll need a new (unplasticized) one.

If the short form is an original, unplasticized document - you're okay.
