I'm a Seventh Day Adventist and don't like to do things on Saturday. I was wondering, if you were in a dance company or in a musical, would you have to practise on Saturday? If practices were on Saturday, would they be compulsory? I just really badly want to keep dancing for my whole life but I would never give up being a Christian for anything.

I remember having rehearsals on Saturdays. Its really up to the director. Just talk to her and explain because of your religion, you wouldn't be able to practice on Saturdays. They most likely would make accommodations.

You can't be in an entertainment industry successfully while completely eliminating Saturdays from your schedule.

Take this from a musician. For everything that you won't do, there will be people willing to do them. You need to be as accessible and available as possible until you have established yourself in a way where you are able to call the shots.

You are either going to have to work on Saturday, or give up a dream. Consider getting involved in dancing programs that are based in your church. You will be among people who have the same beliefs, so it would probably not be a problem. You will never make a dime, and you will be forced to work and support your family while dancing is on the side and just a "hobby", but it's all about your priorities and motivations.

Seriously... Saturday is such a big day for the entertainment industry. You can forget any ability to bargain with the people writing the checks until they all know your name and want you and specifically you. Unless you are some prodigy or dancing virtuoso, there are plenty of able and willing people ready to take your spot on the team and cash your check.

Entertaining people for your living is a priviledge. The roof over your head and the food in your stomach is paid for by people who are entertained by what you can do and it's a job you can definitely enjoy. People come out of the woodwork for jobs like this. The talent base is flooded with people who are trying to live their dream, and plenty of them are willing to work on any day that ends in "y".

I will be honest with you unlike many who wont so here goes

I am a professional musician and preform at major events and concerts , and it dont matter what day or month it is when my publisher books a show then I must be there its in my contract ,

Its a cut throat business and unless you are ready to sacrifice everything you wont get any where in this business

Publishers and Agens wont touch someone who is not ready to sacrifice every thing you have to love the business more than anything in your life . So if you love your religion more than dont even try to make it cause you wont

Im sorry that is the way it is as should be

If you join a dance troupe, or are involved in a production, privately make your position clear to the director. If this is a major issue for you, then it's worth mentioning it right up front. If you're trying out for a production, ask about rehearsal schedules in advance. Yes, many companies and troupes rehearse on Saturdays. However, they will often rehearse at times that are best for most of the group. Just make it clear that Saturdays are out for you, but that you'd be willing to come at other times, as your schedule permits.

If you would never give up your religious beliefs, then go ahead and allow them to dictate how you live your life. You can forget about doing anything that requires you to do anything on a Saturday, and that includes show business.

is it really neccessary to attend every saturday church service? you don't have to give up being a christian since that is who you are - your values, ethics, morals, etc. you have to find out really if you don't like to do thngs on saturday becuase of church or habit. i'm sure there are other church functions you can attend during the week.

I think you are much better to keep to been a Christian and if God will give you an opportunity to do what you like then grab it and do it. Sometimes what we want to do is not really what God wants us to do. All the best. God bless

Consider that aspect (dancing and performing) a hobby. If you love to dance and God gave you the talent for it, the love of it, and the desire to do it, how could you be punished in the end for doing it? If you end up getting paid for it, still consider it a hobby and make sure you tithe to God his share.
