SURE THING!
The major difference is that high in a plane you don't have anything to look at that allows your brain to assess how fast you are moving. I guarantee if the plane you are on hits a pocket of low pressure it will drop fast enough to rival any roller coaster I have ever been on.
That roller coaster is designed to be a thrill ride. Lots of dips and sharp turns to exaggerate the sensation of speed and the change of direction. AND, you have lots of visual things to focus on to make you realize how fast you are going.
It all boils down to how the brain perceives the motion not how fast you are going. Many four engine jets are capable of going 500 miles per hour! That's way faster than a roller coaster.

I think what you are asking is why does a roller coaster seem faster than a plane.
Two main reasons:
1) What a body actually feels is acceleration, not velocity. Acceleration is a change in velocity, either by speeding up or by changing direction. Because the airplane travels at a relatively constant speed, you don't really feel its speed. A roller coaster changes speed and direction often, so you really feel it alot.
2) In a plane, you don't really have a reference. You can see the ground or clouds, but they are generally very far away and don't seem to be moving past very fast. A roller coaster is much nearer to the ground and trees and you perceive the ground as moving past much, much faster. People who design roller coasters understand this and put props and obstacles around, to give you an even greater sense of perceived motion.

Freiderich has the closest to the correct answer. When you are in an airplane, your reference point for motion is out the window, miles away, and tens of thousands of feet below you. If you look out the window, you see towns, rivers, and highways, that don't seem to be moving very fast, so your sense of motion is not greatly aroused.
On the roller coaster, however, you have visual, auditory, and kinetic sources of reference that are very close by and very intense. You are roaring and whooshing, changing directions, speeding up and slowing down, and you have the tracks coming at you, poles whizzing by, and signs coming at you really fast. Not to mention the wind in your face.
So your brain perceives your speed as very fast and your stomach as being disturbed in a way that normally never happens in an airplane.
So go fly. Have a good trip.

The public can purchase old military hardware like a mig-21, mig-17 or an F86 Sabre. All capable of supersonic speed. There are a few places in the US that sell rides on these and fly in air shows. In the new category yes the Citation is fast but there is a personal home built jet called the Javelin that is capable of breaking the sound barrier. NASA has decided to use some for a platform to test. The civilian one would have restrictions to .92 mach but could easily be defeated.

On a roller coaster, you are experiencing G-Force. On an airplane you may experience that on the take-off or on the landing, but that is mostly because there isn't so much gravitational force going on.

good question. when you are on a rollercoaster you experiance positive and negative G's. That is when you feel lighter and heavyer. You experiance positive G's when you take off from the runway and you are pushed back into your seat, and on sharp turns on a rollercoaster. ..........The reason you feel sick on a roller coaster is that G's are constantly changing velocities. On an airplane your body adjusts to the G's fast.................The airplane will go at about 600mph . It flys above the earth with its rotation.

Accelleration is what makes you have those feelings. If a rollercoaster went in a straight line for 5 hours and you had a pod to sit in it would be exactly like an airplane.

Jets are faster .......
Roller coasts make you pull pos & neg G's. And you can see & feel the drops. Inside a jet airliner, you cannot tell ou are moving at 400-500 MPH, yet a 50-70 mph roller coaster is scary, but fun.

When you are on a plane, pray that you don't feel like that. Because very likely, you will shortly be feeling no pain at all.
In summary, it's not speed that you feel, but acceleration. I personally love taking off in a plane, because of that huge push of acceleration.
