how come the .22 subsonic hollowpoints make no sound when fired yet still have the same power of hyper velocity hollowpoints?

SUB SONIC means that they travel slower than the speed of sound. What you actually hear with many bullets, is actually them breaking the sound barrier. I fired a 9mm sub machine gun with a noise suppressor(what some people call a silencer). If I fired standard 9mm I could plainly hear the "crack" of the bullet as it broke the sound barrier, but if I fired 9mm sub sonic ammunition in it, you could barely hear it. It was quite interesting.

How come the .22 subsonic hollowpoints make no sound & still have the same power of hyper velocity ammo? Wrong, and wrong. They do make noise, they just don't have the 'crack' made when a bullet breaks the sound barrier. They don't have the same 'power' of high speed ammo but they are still effect on small game and they will still kill, so be careful.

Best.

Actually they don't have the same power, because they are traveling at a lower velocity.

A Standard Velocity 40 grain bullet at 1120 fps produces 117 ft/lb of energy at the muzzle and 84 ft/lbs of energy at 100 yards.

A CCI Stinger Hyper-Velocity 32 gr HP exits the barrel at 1687 fps with a muzzle energy of 202 ft/lbs and at 100 yards retains 95 ft/lbs of energy.

Granted, not a lot of energy difference at 100 yards, but for the first 50 yards or so, there is a significant difference in energy between the Standard Velocity and Hyper-Velocity loads.
