According to wikipedia there have been 5.59 million units sold as of september 30, 2007. Probably gonna reach 6 million by the end of the festive season.

About 6-7 million PS3's have been sold since launch, and that's about half of what the Xbox 360 has sold in just one year, and the PS3 has had good sales considering that it costs more than the Xbox 360 and Wii.

According to VGCharts.com, there's been about 7.13 million PS3s sold worldwide. However, VGCharts isn't always very accurate, but that should be a good estimate.
