Definitely the US Navy. The US Marine Corps is a part of the US Navy. The USMC has no aircraft carriers, no guided missile destroyers, submarines, cruisers. Which is more powerful: part of an orgainzation? Or the entire organization? Think about it.

The Marines have a specific job, Amphibious assault. Their transport hardware is the Navy's ships and aircraft. This question doesn't make much sense. Put a Marine Assault unit ashore, with full T O &E, and they'll eat any op-for for lunch, and have room for insurgent dessert. The USMC works WITH the Navy, so, again, how would a part OF the whole be more powerful than the parent "whole"

The Marines are under the Navy but do land Ops you need to take a look at a lot of different things when you ask something like that it is a misleading question ! Power how to do what . A admiral doesn't plan a Marine land battle or a general doesn't plan a sea battle lets just say they cooperate and let it go at that it is kind of complicated !
those 16" guns aren't worth squat unless a Marine tells them where the target is ! And you don't control the battlefield without having a 18 year old kid standing on it with a rifle in his hands ! Sure the Navy will play truck driver but so does the Air force the "transport aircraft " the Marines use are Helicopters { rotors } and they are combat capable aircraft also . The Marines also have fighters and the recons { don't need seals they do their own dirty work thank-you }

Well based on the fact that the Navy does not need the USMC to operate in any capacity, while the USMC relies heavily on the Navy to operate in almost every aspect...I would say the Navy has more power or at least the ability to project it.
The real answer is the Navy/Marine Corps Team. While each of the branches take shots at each other in their love/hate relationship we all know that to truly be effective we must rely on each other. The worlds greatest Navy delivering the world's greatest fighting force (USMC) anywhere in the world...now that is power.

I can tell you that their is no separation with regards to "power" between the Navy and Marines. "WE" are a team from the beginning and always will be, now more then ever. Sure we poke fun at each other all the time, but when the chips are down, "WE" use our "power" against any foe and we do it as a team! We transport the Marines to where ever they are needed and we support them in any way necessary!
(i.e: fighter planes, Navy Seals, Seabee's, corpmen, etc...)

What do you mean by "power"?
The Marines are part of the Department of the Navy, but are a separate military branch. As an amphibious force, the Marines are the land power of the Navy. There are many Navy Construction Battalions (SeaBees) deployed in Iraq and each Marine unit has Navy medical corpsmen attached.
As for being the "men's department" of the Navy, the Marines don't have nearly the firepower of the Navy.

The Marines are the ground power of the Navy.
But anyone who has ever been on the ground while the Navy is firing those massive 16" guns from Iowa-class ships knows where the real power is.
