found a 99 stang used to have a v6, axle code is x5. Which as far as i know is 3.27 open. BUT.......is the axle an 8.8 or a 7.5?????? any help will be appreciated!!

Do you have the VIN.
You might be able to look up the specs with the VIN.

Like others have said, it's most likely that it has a 7.5 if the car was a V6. However, if you'd like to visually confirm whether it is a 7.5 or an 8.8, see the "source" link.

ALL non-V8 Mustangs from 1987 up to present model years use 7.5" rear axle assemblies, unless someone has replaced it with an 8.8" out of a V8 Mustang.

MOST V6 cars have a 7.5" rear. I would seriously doubt your find has an 8.8 swapped in. You could go to an auto parts store, have them pull a gasket for both, compare them for a reference then eyeball the axle in question. Once you know what you are looking for, it's easy to ID one from the other.

If it's a V6 it's almost certainly a 7.5 inch rear end either 26 or 28 spline.
