I just recieved a speeding ticket. I was doing 67 in a 45 so 22 over. I the cop gave me a $160 ticket and told me where to go to pay it. But I was wondering what is the mph over that would suspend your lisence? And would the cop have told me if it was going to be suspended right there, or the place that I am going to go to to pay it? Also any idea of how many points this is going to get me? Thanks for your time.

I also live in PA. I don't know how many points you get, but if you go 26 miles an hour you lose your license. But unfortunately IDK if he tells you on the spot or if you have a chance to fight the ticket first.

I haven't got nabbed in PA since I moved back last year....but I used to rack up the tickets when I was younger.

They could have cited you for wreckless driving. Anything 20mph over the posted limit is fair game. You'll most likely get 4 points. I think it's still 2 points per each 10 miles over the limit. They can't suspend your license on the spot. Even if you are DUI. They might arrest you and/or prevent you from driving right then, but your license can only be suspended in traffic court unless you plead guilty, pay the fine, and the charges warrant a suspension as part of the penalty.

Best bet is to fill out the citation and ask for a court appearance. You'll get a date before the magistrate in about 3 months from now. If you live in a fairly rural area or a small town, you can count on the cop showing up. If you live in near one of the cities, you have a 50/50 chance the cop won't show. If he doesn't show...you go away with no penalty at all. It also depends on who nabbed you. State Troopers are usually pretty reliable to show at court, city cops hate traffic court and usually blow it off unless they have a lot of cases. Rural cops will almost always show up. But even if the cops show up sometimes they will give you a chance to speak to them before the hearing. They may make an agreement with you to lower the fine or give you a penalty that carries less points.

Failing all of that, let the judge hear what you have to say. Ask to see if the speed device was calibrated, etc. etc. Or plead it with the judge. You might get off or get a reduced fine.

Good Luck.

4 points..not fast enough to have your DLsuspended. and if your state is like mine if you go to court sometimes they drop the points for just showing up.
