I don't know why a missionary would know anything about the Coromos theory. It is obscure at best. She answered you truthfully. Just because someone has no clue what you are talking about, doesn't mean that logic is on your side. The tiny settlement of Moroni wasn't found on any map in 1830. It didn't become map-worthy until it was made the capital, well after Joseph Smith's death. It has no logical connection to the Book of Mormon. She was also correct when she said that the Smith family were not treasure seekers. To my knowledge, only Joseph Smith has been accused of this, and it isn't a fair evalutation. I'm pretty sure all of us looked for "treasure" when we were kids. From all available testimony, Joseph actually had a knack for finding things. None of this detracts from his labors as a farmer. Although it is true that Joseph Smith was briefly associated with a Masonic order, it is not true that any of their ceremonies are religious in nature. The Masons are not a religion. The Temple ceremonies bear little resemblance to the Masonic ceremonies. The Masons did not baptize for the Dead, marry for eternity, perform washings and anointings, or endow their members with power from on high. The Masons are just a fraternal organization.

Maybe having a solid foundation would help your fight.
start there.
But to entertain, Joesp smith had a vision of Jesus and a message to have plural wives. he was also a freemason. Now as a freemason I can tell you must religions don't like us. J Smith had much ritual from Masonry in the church and also had the sign up process the same way. Oh and I read ai blurp about them stating blacks are cursed but you need to verify that.
I would simply say if you born in an adoption clinic and raised in an orphanage would you have found this faith? Would you even have looked? If you did look and sought the best path and truth would J smith's message be the one? Than again you don't want to pull away the only thing these people cling to so let live.

Our country is at war now and we need a true leader to guide us through the perilous times ahead. Mitt Romney is exactly the kind of person we need to run this country. Before any of us were born, we all lived together in Heaven with Heavenly Father. Some of us rebelled and started a war with those who were faithful . This event was called "The War in Heaven". Eventually the bad guys lost and became demons . the good guys won and were born with white skin here on Earth. Those who did not fight very hard or were indifferent were born on Earth with dark skin. The bravest of the brave leaders of the Lords Army were born here on Earth with White skin to good Mormon families.
During the war, Romney must have been one of the top Commanding Generals. Just look at his awe inspiring persona and strong Mormon family. Amerika needs General Romney to help us win the war on terror and bring Salvation to the world. Vote Romney in '08.

What's wrong with you?
and yeah, we all know BYU is awesome but WHY DID U GO TO A MORMON SCHOOL IF ALL YOU WANNA DO IS TO PUT MORMONS DOWN?
you're weird. Leave the LDS people alone and respect them because I know that they respect you. Before applying to BYU you had to sign the honor code and commit to follow and it says that if you are not LDS you shouldn't put the church beliefs down... so you are violating the honor code and I bet that you don't want BYU to know that.

You sound like a true Christian.. Didn't Christ teach embarrass your fellow men.
Oh, wait. He taught love your neighbor. Who is your neighbor? everyone is your neighbor. You should be loving and kind to the Mormon missionaries even if you are not a Mormon.
Marc- Two points. 1. It was Joseph Smith and not John Smith. 2. Joseph Smith never made it to the Salt Lake Valley. It was Brigham Young that said this was the Promised Valley.

i had a buddy who lived in arizona. this dude has a zz top beard. that day he happened to be wearing a pentagram tee shirt. he had been catching rattle snakes in his backyard all week and finally sat down to skin them. then the mormons in white shirts and bike helmets knocked on the door. he answered the door with a knife in one hand and the bleeding corpse of a snake in the other. the mormons said 'sorry, wrong house' and never came back

One day in sunny San Diego I had a couple of these missionaries pedal up to me on their bikes. One was white, and one was Oriental -- but one of those really dark skinned Orientals, like from Bangladesh or Cambodia or some place. He spoke English really well, so maybe his parents had come over on a boat or something.
Anyways, I asked the White guy if he didn't think maybe the Oriental was dark enough to be a cursed Son of Ham. He sputtered something about the curse having expired, while the Oriental looked liked this was all news to him.
I walked away leaving these two to discuss the finer points of the matter.

Go to an SDA Chruch and learn all about Sabbath Laws. Sabbath meaning Saturday. I have not met one yet that didn't leave me alone after a debate about it. If you learn about the Sabbath and actually see all the scripture supporting it, they have nothing to debate. The only thing they can say is "who said that Saturday is the seventh day?" And that can be combated with Biblical evidence and linguistic evidence.
Linguistic evidence: Look in a dictionary under Saturday- it will say 7th day of the week.
Biblical Evidence: Mary went to the tomb on the FIRST day of the week. Most Christians know that Jesus raised from the dead on a Sunday. That would by default make the 7th day a Saturday.
Then they counter with " But how do we know that it was like that in the beginning?
And you counter with because Jesus would have KNOWN what day was Sabbath and if it was in error, He would have mentioned it... but He didn't... He celebrated it. (many passages speak of him worshiping on Sabbath.... as well as His followers.)
If you want to take this approach, but don't want to talk to an SDA Church, you can e-mail me and I will send you the information I have on the subject. It may not be complete but it should be helpful.

What is wrong with you?
Mormon missionaries are just going to ask you if you want to hear their message. If you dont then say so. What kind of a person goes out of their way to try to embarress and degrade other people just because they dont believe like you?
You CHOSE to go to BYU and not be a mormon. What did you expect???? Why in the world would you choose to go to a mormon school and then try to bash them?

I think it is disgusting that you would even ask such a thing. What happened to being a mature adult, and a person of character. If you don't want to talk to them, simply tell them so, and thank them for their time, and sincerity, but you simply are not interested.
