I just bought a new HDTV with 1080p and I'm contemplating whether to buy a PS3 or just a regular Blu-Ray player. The PS3 has great features for the same price as a regular Blu-Ray player, but I'm not much of a gamer, so I'm wondering if the PS3 upconverts DVD movies to at least 1080i.

Yes, it does upscale them to 1080p. For the best use of PS3 as a BD-DVD player - get this remote:

Yes the PS3 upscales regualar DVD's to HD quality. You should definately buy the PS3 because with the PS3 you get so many more features that a stand alone Blu-Ray player doesn't have such as WiFi, digital camera flash card slots on the 60GB and 80GB models, a Web browser, Bluetooth and more.

Even though you're not much of a gamer, it is worth it to have the extra features that the PS3 has because the PS3 is a gaming machine and a multimedia machine all in one, and you can't go wrong with that.
