Atheist Holiday

Have you heard about
this case? Great answer from the judge!

In Florida , an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and
Passover holidays and Christmas. He decided to contact his lawyer about the
discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded
to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no
holiday to celebrate.

The case was brought before a judge, on a Wednesday.
After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel and declared, 'Case dismissed!' The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, 'Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover,Yom Kippur and Hanukkah...yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday!

The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, 'Obviously your
client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate, his own
atheists' holiday!' The lawyer pompously said, 'Your Honor, we are unaware
of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?'

The judge said, 'Well it comes every year on exactly the same date---April
1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as 'April Fools Day,' consider that
Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, in
my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture, he is a
fool, and April 1st is his holiday!

Now... get out of my courtroom!!
And, Happy Humpday.

Check out some of the old Roman ones - they celebrated everything - from the New Year, to blessing property lines, doorways, the crops, and Pan is the father of Panic - that may fit in with your new religion.

Janus was the god of duality - two faces, two sides, New Year's and doorways.

In Asatru we have ritual rounds of toasting, it's called a Sumbel - one saying is: "Sumbel till you stumble."

You can find celebrations and holidays in the Roman beliefs without working their gods. Just adapt, yes?

The atheist holiday is May 1. It probably comes from the Communists who use to celebrate this day.

In my family we use to practice a "Be nice to 'someone'" Day. That person got to say what we would do this day and where we would eat, etc. If they wanted something we had to get it for them (within reason). It was fun.

I don't really refer to atheism as a religion. The lack of a style doesn't make it a style. In the same sense that the lack of a religion doesn't make it a religion. Atheism is simply the rejection of the popular beliefs such as the belief that weekly church visits guarantee you a spot in heaven or pedophiles in white robes are messengers of god.

I've never celebrated my atheist self and you don't need to either, one Scientology is enough.

The idea of an atheist holiday is stupid. Atheists almost by definition don't believe in anything supernatural, so that pretty well rules out anything holy to base a "holy day" around. Sorry, but if you want to be a really hardcore atheist, you're gonna have to forego the religious customs.

How about April fools day? Psalms 14 1 says: The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God.
