The teacher didn't give me one. Some guys were on campus handing them out. I took one to be polite.

I did read it. To be honest, I didn't get it one bit.

The group that distributes Bibles in schools, hotels, and elsewhere is called the Gideons:

Wiki explains: "Gideons International (also known as Gideon's Bible) is an evangelical Christian organization dedicated to distributing copies of the Bible in over 80 languages and more than 180 countries of the world to those who might not otherwise encounter it, most famously in hotel and motel rooms. The organization was founded in 1899 in Boscobel, Wisconsin as an early American parachurch organization dedicated to Christian evangelism."

I'm sure they gave you a King James Version New Testament, which is pretty hard reading. You can find more modern versions online, such as the New International Version:

By the use of the word campus, I assume you are in college. On college campuses, they are allowed to. They're probably Gideons, they're relatively nice for evangelical types. They just hand them out, take it or leave it.

Technically, the school is a government foundation paid for by the people's tax money... and it is illegal to mix church and state...

however, it is legal for the Students to interact with one another as long as it is consensual... if they are handing out bibles and you decide not to take one, and then they ask you again and again to take one, you can legally have them removed from the premises...

Because some people care about your eternal life. They know where they will spend eternity, and want as many others as will to join them in Heaven. God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross so you could have a choice. The Bible can help you make an informed choice. Good luck, and God bless!

Because religious people like to convert people while they are young, as naive young minds havent experienced enough of life and the world around them to reject the truly ridiculous stories and fairytales that the bible contains. If they get you sucked in before discovering the compelling facts of science, then they have a chance at keeping their silly beliefs alive.

I have never heard of such a thing. If it was done by some outside group such as the Gideons, I have no objection. If it was done by someone with an official connection to a public school, it is out of bounds -- way out.

Some religious groups like to pass them out at schools as a form of recruitment.

i hate it when people do that kind of stuff! They think they are helping us out.

I have a unique mind and think the way I want, and I don’t want someone trying to change me!

I feel sorry for those kinds of people who are brainwashed.

I would be mad if someone tried giving me one, but its nice that took one.

What did you do with it by the way?

You should at least read it. I mean you were polite to accept it because you felt like you would be a freak to say no so the "bible" yet you seem to have no interest in it. Just read it so you can at least know what it's about. No harm, no foul, no commitment.
