I dont think it is a sin. I was raised catholic and nothing in the bible leads me to believe it is wrong. It is pleasurable, helps me release sexual tension, and releases stress. WHy should I conttrol my innate sexual desires just cuz a book says it is wrong?

You should control your sexual pleasures because the book your talking about is the Bible, which is God's words.
(Masturbation is a sin because you need to lust to make the pleasure come, and lusting over women you aren't married to is one bid sin)

Drop your seed and it gives birth to a demon child of sorts to lilith, this child waits at the father's grave.
Masturbation is not explicitly prohibited in the Hebrew Bible. The Talmud, however, forbids male masturbation, as it leads to unnecessary spilling of semen, or the impure thoughts of women other than the man's lawful wife. This prohibition is derived from the Biblical narrative of Onan (Talmud Niddah 13a). The Talmud (ibid) likens the act to murder and idolatry. The wrath displayed by God toward Onan was invoked not through the act of spilling semen, but through disobedience to God's command for Onan

The Bible doesn't talk about it directly. I think why some religions say it is a sin is when you are thinking lustfully when doing it and if it becomes an obsession and you cannot control it. God created us as sexual beings. I Know he is against pre marital sex, but used as a release to stay pure for marriage...with feelings he gave you..I don't see that as sin. That is just my thoughts.

Masturbation is considered a sin for the same reason birth control is cosidered a sin by some people. Accoriding to Christians, catholics in particular, the life that is present in your sperm is wasted if it does not go towards creating a child. You are therefore wasting God's gift of the power to create life.

Most Christian beliefs follow from the works of three men: St Paul, St Augustin and St Thomas Aquinas (even if Protestants don't realize it).
Aquinas laid out the reasons why masturbatino is considered a sin. My advice is to read his works if you really want to know. If not -- just enjoy yourself and stop asking stupid questions.

I don't know which book you're reading, but the topic of masturbation is never discussed at all in the Bible. Considering that 99% of men masturbate, and considering the Bible was written by men, the absence of condemnation is tacit approval.
Susan M is wrong. The Bible does not say that. The story about 'spilling seed' was not about the waste of 'seed', but about a man who shirked his responsibility of giving a son to his dead brother's wife. - a very odd ethic by today's standard no doubt.

People mistakingly interpret the episode in the Bible where Onan "spills his seed" on the ground whereupon God kills him as an indictment of masturbation. This is why masturbation is sometimes called the "Sin of Onan". Way back when, if your brother dies, it was your duty to knock up his wife so his family name could still pass on to the next generation. Onan's brother was killed, and Onan deliberately masturbated before sleeping with his late brother's wife (so he wouldn't get her pregnant). God punished Onan for his failure to do his brotherly duty, not for jerkin' it.

Because it never applied to you unless you are a Jew, in which case the sin involved was spilling seed, as the Jews are a very small people and the spilling of seed is looked upon literally as the murder of future generations of Jews.
So if you aren't a Jew, it never applied to you, you were never freed from it because it never applied to you in the first place. None of the laws in the Torah ever applied to non-Jews except the 7 Universal (Noahide) Laws. The Church lies when it teaches that the laws applied to non-Jews but Jesus freed them from it. The Church fathers knew very well this wasn't true.

EDIT: Well luckily for you, you dont' HAVE to buy into the "spilling the seed" thing, since as a non-Jew this law is completely irrelevant for you.

that's a sin...?!
damn...i'm going to hell then.
jk
do what you want, and don't let others tell you what is wrong, or right. If you believe it's ok, then it's ok.
so many people are completely brainwashed and don't even think for themselves anymore....
Society tells them that something is wrong...it's like there are a bunch of unwritten laws we must follow that tell us how to live our lives. If you want to do it..do it.
as long as it doesn't conflict with any written laws.
don't give in to societie's will if you don't agree.
follow your own heart, and i know that sounds corny, but its true.
in a way...you are a freedom fighter of a braiwashed society.
live strong....

Somewhere in the bible, I can't recall where, it says that it's a sin for a man to "spill his seed onto the ground", meaning masturbation. So, it is a sin.
Why should you control your sexual desires? Because if you want to be a christian, than you must die to your fleshly desires, and become alive unto the will of God; you must stop being a slave to the flesh, and to sin, and start being a slave to righteousness and obedience to God. That's how you be a christian. Otherwise, you cannot call yourself a christian.
