i woke up 1 morning and my mom was in my room dancing to fergalicious. so at night i started locking my door so she wuldnt come in. then she started thinking that i was depressed and that i was going to hurt myself. so my frends came over and we were talking and they started sayin that i dressed emo and that i shuld dye my hair and stuff. so my mom went and looked up emo and she thinks im gonna cut myself now. nothing i say to her will make her change her mind. and i told her even if i was emo that doesnt mean i wuld cut myself. i stopped locking my door but she still thinks im depressed. i dont know what to do

I used to have the same problem with my mom when I was a teenager. Now I have my own teenagers. Believe me when I say that you need to talk with your mother and have a relationship with her. Be her friend and confide in her. She loves you and just wants to make sure you are safe. Watch out who you hang around with. Some friends can make you feel like you need to do things that you really know are wrong. Find good friends that dont mind saying no to doing bad things. I really regret some of the things that I did as a wayward teenager. I am so embarassed at some of the things I did and some still haunt me today....25 years later. One day you will be a mom and your kids will want to hear good things that you were a part of. Be kind to your parents. They will love you when nobody else will.

Okay, that is kinda scary waking up to your mom dancing to fergalicious in your room, I don't blame you for locking your door, lol...

But on a more serious note, even if you do dress emo, that doesn't mean you cut. That is so silly for people to think that, when it's not true at all. I'm emo, and I don't cut. And never would I want to. I know a lot of other emos who don't cut either. But yes, there are those who do, (who give the impression that all emos do).
Tell your mom that you would never even think about doing such a thing. Tell her how "I wouldn't want to hurt myself by doing something like that" and how you think that cutting is stupid and pointless. Convince her you're not like that, and she will eventually believe you. It may take a little time though...

If she's still worried about you being depressed or cutting, bring it to her attention how you do not cut. Show her your wrists whenever she brings it up, so she can see that you are telling the truth.
It may be tough to finally make this conflict come to an end, but it will definitely be worth it once she believes & trusts you.
I hope I've helped out a little.

that seems kind of odd...to find your mom dancing if at anything at all..to fergalicious....

ask her why she THINKS you are "emo" and then ask her why she thinks you began locking your door.

I think you should sit down and talk with her. Be open and tell her that you felt really irked/uncomfortable when you saw her dancing to that song..at 1am..cool mom's dont do that.
You should be honest with her because if you are not, your problems will just get worse.

If you are not emo, then tell her that. Just be who you are and hope that your mom understands. You dont need to dress all in pink or anything.

If you talk to your mom, honestly and truthfully, then she should get the point.
good luck

Sit down with your mom. Tell her you're a teenager and that whatever you do now, it's just a fad. And tell her that Emo does NOT mean cutting. And why is she in your room at 1:00 a.m. dancing around? that's just weird. Ask her about that, too.

so you're annoyed that your mum cares and worries about you.
If you're a teenager and that's the worst of your problems it's not so bad.
If I were you I'd try and convince your mum what a good job she has done in raising you, that you're level headed and so happy that you have her but also because you're growing up you feel the need to be able to have some privacy.

you shouldn't have to explain yourself. i can't believe she looked up emo and just assumed that you were going to start cutting yourself. You need to just sit her down and just explain that your room is your space and that you would appreciate it if she would knock before she came in (especially at 1 in the morning).

Tell your mother that you woke up in the middle of the night and found her dancing in your room. Tell her if she stops it, you'll unlock your door.

i've had a similar problem.
i just let it blow over and continued to act the way i do.
once she realized that thats how i act she let it go.
try getting out more, wear short sleaves, "show off" your arms you could say.
try sitting down with your mom and have a heart to heart moment, and just talk. talk about whats going on in your life, whats going on in her life. stuff like that. talk to her like she's your older best friend. but make sure you watch your language. lol

Dancing around your room? She sounds insane. I have problems with my mother, but they are nothing like this. Hmm... tough situation. You could dress in a bunch of pink and bright colors and act really happy when you are around her if you are desperate enough to convice her.

You don't have to say anything to her. Wear lots and lots of pink, and laugh a lot around her to prove that you are not emo. And I'm sorry, btw. that's a pretty sucky situation.
