Explain factual evidence why, OUTSIDE OF SCRIPTURE (since it has no factual basis to an atheist). Thanks! All answers are very welcome. I am an atheist and do not believe in any supreme being(s), but it still is interesting to see people try and reason with religion, or supernatural beliefs.

I want logical reasons please. In response to a few responses... if you die and you're scared of going to hell? That's a pretty sad reason to just be scared....When you're dead.... guess what folks.... you're dead. And it wont matter if you go to heaven because you're dead. Have you ever thought about it that way? Anyways, the Bible. and other books were written by humans... sorry to bust your bubbles.
So please be kind, explain with logical reasons, not reasons based on "existing faith" as that provides an answer with no intelligence.

One response: Who created the elements? I ask of you. Who created god(s)? Think about it. Saying that he/she/it is eternal and all powerful is redundant. There is no answer for that, because no one knows. Although, I'm pretty sure that there is no answer because he/she/it doesn't exist and religion was devised by early man as a way of explaining phenomenon. As one simple example, early man saw the sun rise every day, so they explained a god must have taken a chariot into the sky and made it that way. We obviously know that isn't the case today as the earth spins around. Evolution of thought. Think about it!

I thank you all for your answers again. I like hearing from the religious community the kind of answers that I have received. Whether you christians or other religious people believe it or not, you are the vast majority of people. This is especially true where I live in Cobb County Georgia. I grew up in a Christian home, went to church every sunday for 20 years, and even graduated from a Christian high school in the area. Yet... I am still an atheist. I dont feel that I have the moral high, or low ground (although some religious people believe you either are with Jesus or in hell....quite an unloving religious view), I just question what I hear and see. However, seeing the majesty of the night sky, and evolution of the species on this planet does not always have to denote a creator. Just because we can not fathom such things does not mean there has to be a "creator." Each new year brings about new studies, and findings...Remember that! ie, gravity, flat earth, why it rains...et al.!!

I believe in a creator because it is the most logical thing that makes the whole merry-go-round make sense. I don't follow any religion with scripture so that is not an influence, just plain personal logic that for me makes sense

I believe in God. Look around us. Is this by chance? Our intelligence, our feelings, ourr ability to be rational. i find it hard to believe we are product of accident. The Bible did fulfill many prophecies and will continue to do so. I cant send you a videotape of how the earth was formed, i wasnt there when it happened. I cant show you of a picture of Jesus and I hanging out at the courts. We must have faith. There is good and there is evil, I think there is great evidence of that, especially nowadays. protons dont create good and evil. molecules cant do that alone. It takes something more. Something not so tangible, not so empirical. I wont tell you what to believe. but I will tell you this: it would be foolish not to inquire, truly inquire, into the power of Jesus Christ. The Bible said it well, "Only a fool believes that no god exists". Believe me, I used to be a fool, and as a human I still make foolish decisions. You have a choice to make. To accept or refuse. That is the question. Accept Jesus or refuse Him.

I like the way you worded your question. It is interesting to see people try and reason with the concept of a Higher Power.
Perhaps it is appropriate to abolish reason and just "feel".
I have no proof or factual evidence, that could or would convince another, of the existence of a Divine Presence.
I feel awe when I look at the majesty of the starry skies at night and I feel a serenity when I watch the sunset at the beach.
The entirety of how our human bodies, minds, and emotions work and interact with the others is not yet fully explained by any scientific evidence to date.
I feel much more accurately in most situations than factual evidence could offer. I sense that perhaps there is something beyond books and facts or logical explanations for me and for you and for nature and all of the mysteries that we have yet to solve.
Edit: Sorry...I didn't see your additional details on this Q.

i was raised that way, so initially i found faith that way. But as i matured, God revealed himself- and yes- it is a spiritual thing that i cannot prove to you except by the way i act, and since i do not know you i will never have an impact on you. You really just have to take a leap. thats why we have the term "a leap of faith", because it is never easy. and once you believe, you see evidence everyday and it is undeniable.
So you have to take a leap i guess, and if you, as you are, are unconvinced that it is possible or even real, then you cannot ever really believe and will live your life as you do. meet with some christian friends- good christians- maybe pastors or leaders within a church. see how they live and why and ask personal stories of your friends as well. But unless you are willing to take a leap and believe you never will

I do have faith in a God, or in God, I particularly have examine the Bible, it intrest me alot, presently I particularly have been attempting to discover the connections with Revalations and whats taking place in the middle East good now, you realize, Babylon is suitable smack in Baghdad, God cursed that land, ever considering that, its had issues, the Harlot because of the fact the Bible speaks of , gets inebriated off the blood of the harmless ones, who would desire to that harlot be? the US? or Iraq? The seven heads and crowns of the dragon, are those the large powers? those cases, I do have faith , are the signs and indicators of the top. i could elect to have faith the area approximately how God reported he does no longer enable the earth to be destroyed lower back as he alowed while he flooded the earth, so possibly it extremely is going to do away with a brilliant astroid hitting us. and then in specific circumstances, u understand, considering that this universe is so huge, why are we the only ones right here? If God made a good number of those plntsin universe because of the fact he enjoyed us plenty, how in the worldwide are we going to be waiting to confirm them? Or is there yet another race already doing that, hence flying saucers's and such. or possibly there isnt a God, possibly its those area beings that have orchestrated a e book of standards for the human race to stay with as an test, now we are being checked on and monitored extra beneficial than ever. yet never the fewer even then, imho, interior, there is implanted something, that makes us conscious that we are created, that we would desire to percieve as extra beneficial than mankind, that we would desire to worship. I kinda think of , u understand, considering that Jesus replaced into around how considerable it extremely is to do Gods will, he warns us of our drawing close doom if we dont, i think of, guy, hundreds of years have handed and there remains human beings winding up what Jesus did, if there's a hell, extremely than a private hell, is it extremely that undesirable that we would desire to heed a warning that has been passsed alongside for hundreds years?

I believe there could be a higher power because life seems to be a serious thing... and so much stuff that happens to me makes me believe there is a lot happening like it was planned. All the times I learned lessons, felt protected, felt like there was something to look forward to. I think everything will work out to be good in the end, or maybe I just want it to.
If you were looking for proof, i'm sorry, honestly, I don't have any. I'm as lost as you.

I believe in God because of what Jesus Christ did and taught ,during His ministry and God has sent Many teachers over the millennias to help Mankind.
Also If I am connected to God, in order to believe in Myself, I MUST also believe in God , since We are both eternally and infinitely connected. Logic does not lie nor is it the end of wisdom and knowledge but the Beginning. To respect the Creator of All Things of All Creation is simply Logical. To Reject the Creator is also equally ILLOGICAL. To each, their own.

I believe in God because to me there is no other explanation of how WE or how anything else got here. Even if you believe that we started out as little microorganisms swimming in a body of water, how did those organisms get here? I personally don't believe in evolution, so I don't believe in us as being little organisms at one time, but if you do, then how did those little organisms get there? Did they fall out of the sky, well how did the sky get there? How did that body of water get there?
Also, I'm Catholic and as you may or may not know we believe in saints. To me those saints have given me proof in God. These were actual real people who have experienced something beyond what you or I or maybe a million other people may never experience and have it documented. These documents which can be, but definately not always have, dated very recently in our times. You may want to read up on Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Bernadette, or Saint Therese the Little Flower of Jesus for "recent" documentation if you want to.
Other than that I believe that we have a purpose on this earth, and not meaning just for OUR lifetime, but for all of eternal lifetime. I believe earth will end one day, the sun will die out, and life will stop here on earth. For us we will be dead, but those who will be living at the time life ends on earth they too will die. But then what? What was the point of the universe? What was the point of those billions and billions of people on earth? What was the point of suffering, hatred, love, relationships, family, friends etc? Is it just for us to be here one day, drop dead and thats it? I don't believe so. I think there is something beyond this life and I believe it will be spent with God.

The notion of God was given to me as a child. I continue by choice to believe there is a God, because he works for me. Man capibilities are limited, so who made universe ? What about the elements of the Big Bang? What created the elements, who are what gave them life? Was it energy. Now what is energy? You can't see energy but know it exist. You don't understand electricity, but know it exist. You can sure feel the shock. I feel God....

Wanda,
It is difficult for me to put into words what happened to me during my high school years. I had a Near-Death Experience and was in a coma for some period of time. After that happened, I became interested in studying and attempting to find "GOD". I realize that is not good enough proof for someone who does not believe but it was for me. I married a year later and became a Christian about age 30 with my wife after an extended Bible Study. We are faithful Christians who believe the Bible to be GOD'S Inspired Word. Have a great week.
Thanks for Listening,
Eds
