1. I asked my mom directly if I can have a cell phone and she said "no, I can't think of any reasons of why you need a phone."

2. I made up a list of 20 reasons of why I need a cell phone. I asked her "now can you think of any reasons?" and she said "Nope, I still don't think you need one."

3. Now I ask her directly why she won't let me have a cell phone and you know what she says? either "because I said so," or "because I'm the mom."

Why won't she let me? I am offering to pay the entire bill and for the cell phone, I have almost straight A's, AND I said that if my grades drop, she can just take it away. I can't think of anything, HELP!!

You dont state your age but the Cell Phone companies have Marketed every one so much-YOU MUST HAVE ONE OR YOUR NOT NORMAL is the Thinking Across America. Maybe your Mom is afraid your grades will drop if you get one. Then It isnt as easy as just giving it up and let her take it back!!! The bill must be paid for the length of the contract or a ridiculous EARLY TERMINATION FEE!!. If you are driving I agree that a Pre Paid Phone is necessary in todays World or a Trac- Phone for your safety and EMERGENCIES. Maybe your Mom is trying to avoid the Problems most Youth have of Abusing the Phone and talking for Hours Everyday and running up a big bill or Grades falling off of lack of exercise!!!!

First of all, you have no idea what cellphone bills are like. Your mother knows she will end up paying them in the end. And odds are it would be a big issue taking it away from you if your grades drop. I know it's frustrating when parents don't give you direct answers, but just know she has her reasons. How old are you? Do you really NEED a cellphone? If you are in 8th grade or younger, just leave her alone about it and ask her the summer before Freshman year.

Because she probably doesn't trust that you will actually pay the bill. Maybe she feels you will overuse it and run up the bill to where you can't pay it, then she will be stuck with the bill. Maybe she doesn't feel you are responsible enough to have a phone yet, or worries that you will spend so much time on it that you will neglect your school work or other responsibilities. She is ultimately responsible for your bills if you default. I won't let my teen daughter have one either.

I don't know. My son is 11 and we got him a cell phone for his birthday. He goes all over town and this way I always know where he is. If she is worried about the bill start with a prepaid cell phone and prove that you can be responsible. That is what we did with my son and he has done really well.

my mom said i could get a cell phone to before then my mom and my dad talked it over and thought b/c of the cost it woun't be a good idea. It could be that your mom wants you to have a cellphone when you get older that way your responsible for the bill. or she could be doing what my moms doing waiting until you get a job. But dont worry you'll get a cell phone soon. i know how you feel i'm dying to get a cell phone too! buti know i'll be getting one soon. dont worry you'll get one soon too. I hope i helped you out :-) Have a great christmas!

You don't say how old you are.....I've raised 3 boys and none of them had cell phones until they had their drivers license....I see no reason for kids to have a cell phone, unless you only use your cell phone numbers and you do not have a home phone. But if you are of driving age....I think it is very important for you to have a cell phone.

I think only your mom has the real answer to this question.
But it seems to me that your mom is standing her ground because she needs to show you it is her decision. If you are challenging her decision she is going to be more steadfast.

I'm sorry I just don't have any suggestions for you because nobody knows your situation as well as you and your mom.
