i have a friend who came out of the closet a couple years ago. he is of middle eastern decent and homosexuality extremely unacceptable among these people. his father practically DISOWNED him... my question is for those of you who think someone chooses to be gay... WHY ON EARTH WOULD SOMEONE "CHOOSE" TO BE THROWN OUT BY THEIR WHOLE FAMILY, AND FROWNED UPON BY SOCIETY IN GENERAL????
don't preach to me, i want a straight up answer, thank you

You're right, no one choses their sexuality. It is simply an innate disposition. Hetero isn't the only right way to be. No sexuality is wrong, it just is. And to the bashers out there who like to equate homosexuality with pedophilia, no pedophilia is not a sexuality. It is wrong b/c it hurts children. Homosexuality is neutral is is heterosexuality. It does not hurt anyone, it is between two consenting adults... and it's non of your business what I do with the person I love.
I'd also like to say that heterosexuality is shoved in my face every day by heterosexuals so no one has any basis for an argument bu saying they are sick of gay people "shoving their gayness" in their face. Everything is normed in heterosexuality in our society which means it is shoved in my face all day every day. From people talking about dates and bf's and gf's, to talking about crushes, to seeing movies and television shows. No on who is hetero has to be afraid to express who they are. If i were talking to someone and said something about my boyfriend no one would be offended. So why is it suddenly offensive if I were to say something about my girlfriend. It's a double standard and its sick and wrong.

I am going to answer your question the way you asked for an answer... but first let it be clear it is not just choice or born, up or down sort of thing. Everyone has different genetic tendencies, social-enviornmental dispositions, and maybe more importantly chemical-hormonal occurences while in the womb.
So now for your question paraphrasing here "Why someone would "choose" something that has negative implications for them in society or at home?"
Well there are many people who:
-Drink Alcohol by choice
-Do Drugs by choice
-Cheat on their partner by choice
-Dont follow the religious, cultural, or family traditions by choice
-Are Rascist by choice
-Torture animals by choice
-Drive home drunk by choice
-Have an immoral occupation
The list goes on...and I am obviously not comparing homosexulaity with these before everyone barks here, but I am answering you on your point exclusively -that people for whatever reason choose to take an action, live a lifestyle, or make a decision that to them is more attractive than what family, society, and or anyone else thinks is better or right. You know cheating on your wife is wrong to everyone but you still do because it is your natural inclination to do so. That is a biological fact. You can choose to refrain from your insticts and impulses if they are negative to society or you can indulge them at your own consequence.
Your friend could have had a family that would have stoned him to death if he talked let alone showed these tendencies again. Now he still has a choice right? It isnt about what you think or he thinks is right or fair, but it is about how you choose to take and make decisions that are either natural for you or are for societies norms.
That is the bottom line. Oh..child molestors are almost always made by abusive or messed up social interactions while young. Homosexuality is not the same thing. Finally, if all men tommorrow were gay there would be no humans in 100 years ( no science allowed sorry ladies), so right or wrong, from a natural selection view it isnt conductive to the species. ( Unless it natural population control thing, who knows)

You are absolutely not born gay lol. You people are saying you are so weak as people that you cant control your thoughts or desires that it was just nature and any opinion you have for your own self is discredited? Listen when your born are you naturally thinking to know that a bright sun shine day is nice? No you learn it and it grows the older you get. When your born do you automatically know that rain isnt harmful to the touch? No you learn it. Being gay is a persons choice to enjoy what he/she likes. The "would anyone want to be gay in a hateful world? is so lame and played out being gay is accepted for one and two yes people would because its what they love they love the same sex, the tale of romeo and juliet died for each other and were i love so yes LOVE will lead people to do things even if it means persecution. YOU ARE NOT BORN GAY YOU HAVE A BRAIN YOUR HUMAN YOU MADE THE CHOICE. Jesus christ people quit being idiots. To the person who is above me with his copy and pasted "science facts" your evidence proves you are actually wrong thinking yuor born gay 38% or whatever is this and 48% of twins are both gay blah blah blah. What your doing is without a shadow of a doubt saying that some people are in your opinion born gay, what about the other 52%? they just mindlessly became gay? Wrong, its a preference a SEXUAL preference, and whats a preference? Thats right kids its something youve CHOSE. Explain Bi sexual thenif its estrogen and testoterone based did they get both? dna allowed the impossible? no you idiots Is a CHOICE. People think they are born gay because the thought happens when the brain starts to become independent but doesnt develop until puberty. So they think "oh around 4 or 5 i knew i was gay or i liked the same sex" So you learned to make a CHOICE THEN is what your saying. What about the other 3-4 years before you were 4-5 why didnt you choose then? BECAUSE YOU COULDNT MAKE A PREFERENCE REGARDING SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE THE BRAIN DOESNT DEVELOP THOSE SORT OF SKILLS YET. Gay guys for example if its genetics why are the born with scrotums or penises? they are born to like other men who cant reproduce with them why have those sexual organs shouldnt the genetics facilitate the non reproducing sexual orientation? Basically prove to me that your born gay without any questions are happenings that ive mentioned that utterly destroy the "your born gay" nonsense. Oh you want me to prove to you that its a choice? I made my choice to be straight I saw females and i said yup i enjoy it and am attracted to some of them, in the logic "your born gay" people have i shuold be attracted to ALL women because im BORN STRAIGHT so the fact i find lets say oprah winfrey repulsive make me gay? Shes a women though! Oh well i made a CHIOCE to think that womans ugly and i have no interest in her. Im better than you~

Well, in the year 1985 I attended a seminar about sexual deviations. The psychiatrist who directed the subject told us that the moment when the sexual social role is set in an individual happens between the 3 and the 9 y/o.
Causes ? Nobody really knows
What we can say is that the individual feels the sexual drive in one sense or the other.
When an individual feels a homosexual impulse he has several choices:
1 - Not to follow it
2 - Follow it
That is a choice
If the person cannot feel interest to women and cannot change that, well I sure feel sorry for him

I dont judge gay people due to the fact that I am not sure whether or not their feelings are choosen or cant be helped.
What I do know though is that they choose to allow themselves to give in to their temptation. Also, I know that God prohibits homosexuality.
Whether it is chosen or not I feel that God will make the decision on that. That is not for me to decide. And of course, I dont think that being disowned is what someone wants when they "realize" they are gay.

These people choose to be honest with themselves as well as others. To some people living a lie is much more painful than dealing with the truth. The only way a gay person can truly be happy is to come out and tell the truth. Living a lie and hiding your true feelings is self destructing. Gays are born this way it is not a choice. If they were capable of truly loving a person of the oposite sex thay probably would. Nobody enjoys public persecution of their feelings by the IGNORANT masses.

It's the human condition to think we have a choice in everything, and we never seem to be able to admit we don't. Be nice if we were all rich, handsome, saintly, and healthy. But we're flawed, sickness prone, mostly self centered, judgmental beyond belief, and judging by the news, not terribly bright.

It is simply made by choice. And it's agaisnt nature.
The reason they turn gay is because they are influenced by the people (who are homo) around them or too much gay porn and inhuman things on TV.
They say its the way they are born only as an excuse to cover their shameful acts.

I hate when people say – he/she was born gay.
I think in some way you do chose to be gay, although some people don’t realize it right away. Relaying on your own personality, you chose who you are attracted to.
And not everyone discovers who they truly are early on in their lives. Who ever does is lucky, and is able to get on with their life a lot sooner. Love is love.

Throwing my two cents in.
I happen to be bisexual. I do not choose the traits that I am attracted to. That's kind of like stating that you are going to choose to crave a certain food. Ridiculous, and I feel very sorry for the people who know no better.
