Think to yourself. If there was religion, the wars we have to fight, might actually have a legitimate cause. Ahem, you know which war I am talking about.

So what most of you are saying is that religion keeps people in line. Well, if you need it have morals, then fine. I have morals. I am not religious. Am I missing something?

Personally, I think so.

Not only is there war, but much more. Unnecessary death. Disputes about everything from sexuality to abortions to medicine.

All because of RELIGION, people can't love who they want. A woman that has a legitimate reason to feel that it's best she get an abortion can't, and the child often suffers because of it. Other suffering children are in such a state simply because their religion forbids medicine that would cure them of pain.

Some say that we'd have these problems without religion. But really, would we? If it weren't for religion, the idea that you're only supposed to love and enter relationships with the oppositte sex, never would've surfaced. And who are the leading people against abortion? Christians. I admit, I think it should be the last resort, but I think it should be an option. Christians eliminate that possibility. And why would a loving parent deny their doctors the right to perform life-saving medical procedures on their children under the condition that it doesn't conform to their religion, if there was no religon in the first place?

We wouldn't have those problems. People can say we'd have them anyway, but face it, we wouldn't.

Without religon, we'd have time to work with more important matters. We could already have disease cures, that are currently being barricaded because of religious uprising and debates. Life would be better.

j I agree; the world would be a better place... Just think, the Middle East has been at war for centuries. Their war has gone on longer than any single empire or nation has existed and the people who are still fighting have gone through numerous political changes... the reason is because of religious differences and a "Holy Land" important to both groups. Did you know there was peace in the Middle East for about a decade? Then one of the Popes decided that this wasn't right for the "Holy Land" to be in the hands of "heathens" (aka non-Christians). So, he planned for another go at the Crusades, which started the fighting right back up again. Religions are for the weak minded followers who can't worship God without someone telling them how and for the greedy and power hungry to take advantage of those weak minded fools. So, yep, without religion, we'd all be better off

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

--John Lennon's "Imagine"

I think a world like that just might work. I was raised as a Christian and a part of me still believes I am. However I am not a practicing Christian, go to church next to NEVER, and believe in far too many things that go against the Christian beliefs. I feel truly that my spirituality is my OWN. That's how everyone should be. I bet when it came down to it, everyone would have similar views on the things that really matter. Who knows though I guess.

Tough to say. Religion does so much good, but it also does so much bad.

On the positive side, Religion (and spirituality in general) helps people have emotionally healthy lives, and also helps establish codes of morality and standards of conduct in many societies. It can provide emotional wealth for people who might not have material wealth.

On the negative side, religion can blind people from objective and rational thought. This has a range of negative consequences including distrust between peoples of differing religions, up to all out wars and even genocide. Religion can also prevent people from embracing scientific or logical principles that are beneficial.

On the whole, I think the world would be better without religions that claim to be the "only path" or the "only truth", but also believe spirituality can benefit people. However, spirituality does not require adherence to a particular religion, or even belief in a god. Spirituality can also be a belief in the good of humanity, and the higher authority of moral integrity which man has assigned value to.

NO.
There would be chaos everywhere. It would be worse than it is today. I believe we desperately NEED religion.
Look how the kids have grown away from the LORD since they took it out of schools. They are all promiscuous especially at a young age, and they are getting pregnant.
They are getting into drugs, and cutting themselves, etc.
I believe that we need RELIGION back in schools, etc.
People need to know the TRUTH and stop rebelling against the LORD. If they take away religion, everyone will live like they did in Sodom and Gomorrah. It is bad enough that some people have already been living there lives that way.

I know what war you are referring to and I agree with you.

But for the life of me I do not know why we are fighting in Afghanistan? No one appears to be seeking Osama!

There is a member of our family there and he said all of the Soldiers were in a state of depression, plus they haven't had a cooked meal in months or baths.

Also, something very distrubting; The Taliban took a young 15 year old young man and accused him of being a spy, so they hung him inside a building and lit a fire under him (he was still alive) and roasted him alive. Then went to tell the Mother she could have her son, who was nothing but a body of charcoal. This is religion, this is pure evil. It doesn't get much worse than this.

And if they could get one of our Soldiers, from any country, do you think they would not hesitate to do the same thing.
There will always be war between nations, and kingdom against kingdom, according to the word of God.

The Middle East is lawless and will even become worse. What is happening over there now is Biblical, They are setting things up for the last battle between good and evil, that is the Battle of Armageddon.

It may start tomorrow, it may be in a couple of years. But we do not have any time to waste, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, then you must get acquainted. Your soul depends on it.

Our Country is almost to the point of becoming lawless. Pray.

Probably. There would still be a lot of prejudice though that has nothing to do with religion. But I think people would be more likely to accept certain differences.

And I just want to say something to the person who said no b/c we need the threat of hell. Is that the only reason you don't go around killing people? Just b/c you are scared of hell? That says a lot about your lack of moral development. People don't need threats to keep them on the straight an narrow. Most people have innate consciences that have nothing to do with some ridiculous threat made up by other people to control them.

You wouldn't want to live in a world without religion -- if for no other reason than it keeps people from running amok.

Suppose we erased the stripes that ran down the middle of streets and made driving on the right side a matter of ethics and courtesy? I'd never get in a car again, because I know what chaos would ensue.

Read Flannery O'Connor's short story, "A Good Man is Hard to Find," if you want to envision a world without religion.

According to some scholars in Pre-Ancient times when Man was still very Primal and Caveman like. Primal Caveman would kill even young children to practice on or just for fun.
There was no religion then, is that better off? Even an occasional Spacefaring race would land and this Primal Cavemen, some of them Tree Dwellers would attack a member or two of the Landing Team from a Tree....thus the saying " Cursed be those who hang from a tree..."

Yes, but it would not -completely- rid the world of it's problems.
While the war we are fighting now is not religious based, it sure as hell was the straw that broke the camels back. In the name of Allah. Sound familiar? The people who crashed into the WTC did it with the promise of heaven etc. Based on their religion.
I'm pretty sure mankind will find other reasons to fight, but there would be alot less ignorance and realizing that some people are just plain monsters without hiding behind god(s).
