I think the big problem here is the assumption that God replaced Judaism with Christianity. Religion is a creation of man, not God. We are responsible for all the different versions of Judaism and Christianity and the division that exists between all of these groups. So you can't really read the Old Testament prophets and see it in terms of two separate religions...Christianity and Judaism. When they refer to the Jews they are talking about a group of people that had not yet been divided into what we have now (numerous flavors of Judaism and Christianity). Around Jesus' time there were many different groups of Jews, kind of like Christians today. A lot of it was political and they each had their own ideas of how to do things. There were groups who thought the Messiah would be a king, some were expecting more of a warlord, some were expecting more of a prophet, and also those who were expecting no Messiah at all. The split between Judaism and Christianity basically came down to those who thought Jesus was the Messiah and those who thought he wasn't. So if you really want to get technical with what the prophets referred to as "the Jews" then, in today's world, that would include all Jews and Christians (since Christians are basically an offshoot of the Messianic Jews). Or if you want to get even more technical, then it really doesn't refer to a religious group at all. "The Jews" are really just a segment of the population whose history is chronicled in the Old Testament. In this case the words of the prophets would have little value in today's world since that original population became so splintered that its progeny cannot be traced. So we really don't know if any of those far-reaching prophecies proved to be true.
But the overriding point is that Religion is a creation of man, not God. So to say one religion is right while the other is wrong, is really just ignorance on our part. Modern Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah and modern Jews believe that he was not. This is a very broad generalization and overly simplistic, but it holds true enough for this discourse. Both have valid arguments and it's really not our place to decide which one is right. It's simply a matter of faith.

I would not call Judaism the wrong religion!!!!
We are still waiting for the REAL mesiah who would fulfill the following prophecies:
The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26)
Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4)
The whole world will worship the One God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17)
He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via Solomon (1 Chron. 22:8-10)
The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of God" (Isaiah 11:2)
Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4)
Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9)
He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10)
All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12)
Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8)
There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8)
All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19)
The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11)
He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7)
Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5)
The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)
The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55)
Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9)
The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvot
He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9)
Jews will know the Torah without study (Jeremiah 31:33)[original research?]
He will give you all the worthy desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4)
He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9)

You are right in just about everything you say.... but, you have to remember the OT is written TO the Jewish people, but FOR us all to learn by....... according the *promise* the Israel people would recieve their King, Messiah, Prince of Peace, etc., and yes, the Jewish people are the reason I KNOW the Bible is real and true !!! as you say, look at their history !! anyway, up until about the middle of the Book of Acts, it is still talking OT, even Jesus followed the Law !!! Gods plan was for the Jewish People to bring us Gentiles into citizenship of the Kingdom, they were Gods chosen to lead the World..... they dropped the ball, when they did NOT believe that Jesus WAS that long awaited King..... so God put them aside, for lack of better phrase, and in came Paul, the Gentile Apostle........ Has anyone noticed that Jesus did NOT teach, preach or even perform miracles, just 2 or 3 spoken of in Bible, to and for the Gentiles ?? He told the Apostles He could not and they could NOT go unto the Gentiles !!! Read the story of the woman at the well, forget what book , about the even the dogs eat the scraps..... That is what that story is about, Jesus is telling this Gentile woman that He is NOT there for them, the Gentiles, and she responds with that famous phrase..... Jews are NOT of the *wrong* religion*, but at this time they are apart of the *lost*..... but, like I said, God will deal with them again, and then MOST of them will be rejoined unto Him..... go in peace..... God bless
Hope this all helps just a little.......

Why is it which you would be able to settle for, little doubt, that Jesus is/replaced into the messiah, because of the fact he supposedly rose from the lifeless, yet you scoff on the belief of Muhammed starting to be to Heaven on a White Horse? The virginity of Mary has been shown to be a creation of Constantine in the 5th Century so the bit approximately Jesus being born of a virgin is plenty fluff. Mary replaced into married and had different babies befiore Jesus so the bit approximately G-d being his genuine Father is, nicely, enable's say that my Daughter would desire to no longer wreck out with it. I mean, come on. there isn't any credible data that Jesus replaced into different than a Rabbi or instructor. A Jew. He replaced into performed because of the fact he replaced right into a trombenik./

The Jews practicing the Jewish religion wondered in the wilderness for 40 years lead through all the many hardships brought on them selves chose to follow themselves instead of GOD holy word. Today any person that has been buried with Jesus into his death is a decedent of Abraham.
The Jews that continue to follow the traditions of their fathers do not have salvation of Jesus our Lord.
That is why traditions are bad to follow we must live by the living word of GOD.

By "everyone deeply believes that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah...and so on", I have to assume you meant "most people".
Jews do not believe Jesus was the Messiah. By definition, nobody who believes Jesus was the Messiah can be a Jew, (you "Messianic Jews" can call yourselves whatever you want, but to the Jewish community of the world, you've excluded yourselves....And *we* get to decide who is one of us!)
We do not accept Jesus as Messiah, not because he was born of humble birth, but because he did not usher in a messianic age. Look around you, folks, does this planet in 2007 look like a peaceful, prosperous, Paradise to you?
Seems to me you have most of the rest of it right--the Jews are G-d's Chosen People, we are "a light unto the nations".
You are also correct that our astounding history supports a belief that G-d chose us for a special destiny. (And, no, producing Jesus wasn't it.) The Tanakh may not have supplied the specific legal system on which American democracy is founded, that would be the Graeco-Roman, but the Tanakh did introduce the notion of living according to law, and of equality under the law.
I think your last question "Why are they the wrong religion?" is a rhetorical question, and I think you may have answered it for yourself. It sounds to me as though you either are a Jew, or may be ready to become one.
Wishing you Shalom Lev in your spiritual journey!

who said judaism is the wrong religion?
and jesus is not the jewish messiah. the jews dont believe that jesus is the son of god and all that. the jews wont know who the messiah is until he comes.
im adding this after i read all 36 anwers that are up now:
im a religious jew so my views on this subject are pretty different than everyone elses here and i know that the jews were chosed by a G-D who is not the same god as the Christian god.
spirit dummy said that a woman in king soloman's court wrote the OT. where did that come from? G-D gave over the OT to moses who wrote it down right before the jews got the torah at sinai.
John S said, "the Jews rejected God (in the flesh-Jesus) and the New Covenant, so God rejected the Jews and invited the Gentiles." the jews did not reject G-D and jesus was not G-D in the flesh. jesus was a jew who left judaism. hes not the son of G-d or G-D in human form.

you have made very valid points and the truth is that their religion is not the wrong religion. their are just a large number of them that disagree with the idea that Jesus is not the messiah they have been waiting for. there are a small number that do in fact believe he is the messiah and are messianic Jews. in a nut shell they recognize Jesus as messiah and still obey the laws set forth by God( minus the sacrificial laws that God put a stop too when his son died on the cross as the ultimate sacrificed. this small group OS messianic Jews are in fact the true Christians that all of us other Christians fall short of being to to the traditions man has stolen from other faiths.......and the fact that they have totally disregarded the whole OT where messianic Jews have not.....

Zechariah tells us lots of interesting things about the messianic times :
1. People from around the world will come to learn from the Jews, NOT the other way around. (Zech. 8)
2. The gentile leaders will come to Jerusalem each year to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot (Tabernacles) with the Jews
(Zech. 14)

The Jewish people are God's chosen people. They were chosen to bring Jesus into the world through them. God loves them.
In reading the OT, you will see that Abraham is the first of many and God promises Him that a Savior will come through his bloodline and He did. Please note that the entire Bible points to a Savior, from Genesis to Revelation and what the Bible says about Jesus.
The Bible is God's written Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.
“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)
Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books
39 Old Testament
Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- the books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.
27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)
Romans to Jude - Letters to the Churches
Revelations - The ultimate future plans for: The Church, Heaven, Hell, a New Heaven and a New Earth.

When Jesus came, He fulfilled all of the laws. Read the prediction about Him in Isaiah 53. Jesus is not a religion. He is God reaching down to man with love, and grace. Jesus is God's way of forming a relationship between Himself and man.
