This may sound odd, but I think that the time of the year affects how introspective I am; for lack of a better term, "spiritual." I know that there are times of the year when I seem to notice things more, appreciate them more, consider things more.

With the year drawing to a close, I find myself rather thoughtful--I mean that I am taking time out to just be alone with my thoughts and consider my life. I don't know what this is about this time of year, but I feel a greater poignancy. I feel a greater sense of connection with others and a greater empathy.

Do you experience the same kind of "spiritual" patterns? Do you think this is part of nature, the cycle of the year tying into a cycle of spirituality, perhaps? What times of the year do you feel more in tune with all creation, and what do you think the reason for it is?

For me it is fall. There is too much forced socialization around Christmas for introverted ol me. I like the shift into fall - things pick up after the lazy days of summer, but there is ending, mixed in with new beginning. Can't explain it well tonight, so I'll leave it at that. The colors, the clarity of the air, the longer nights, the sense of sentimental loss...

It's another year closer to death. The euphoric feeling is generally because you think of the "good" times that you had especially around the holidays because people got together and were nicer.

That's why there are higher suicide rates in January. People are thinking about having to go on with life without all that was wonderful in November/December.

So to be more introspective about being so close to the end of life and turn to thinking about the afterlife. You think, "why all this fuss about a guy that may not have existed." Jesus of Nazareth. He did.

I hope you know that your questions and a couple others really inspire me to stay with Y!A Yes, we do live in extraordinary times! I was in the process of forming a Q along the same lines.
Yes, seasonal rhythms apply....spiritually speaking.
Why is the calender designed the way it is?
You reap what you've sown around Halloween....you give thanks for what you've sown around Thanksgiving....you do much of your soul-searching around Christmas....and you make new resolutions based on all your soul-searching around the new year. Need I go on?
Ok, I'll give you one more clue.
The summer solstice is the best time to connect with your own entity.

In my opinion, since everyone's life experiences differ - we all have our own thoughts about various times of the year.
I think that the holiday season is especially introspective though, because sentiment at holiday time is heightened.
As you pointed out - as the year draws to a close - we naturally tend to reflect on the ending of "a time" of our lives.... what we did, accomplishments, defeats etc.

All that being said, for me - I will experience sentiment at different times of the year of course, but in my spirit - in the deepest connection that I have with Jesus and His Spirit - those times are intermittent. They are not necessarily dependent on the time of year it is, or the circumstance I am in. They occur when I seek Him.... or when He wants my attention. As I grow deeper in my relationship with Him, I am learning to recognize these times more and more - so that simply by having a conversation with someone, or prayer time with a friend or family member, or just experiencing the wonder of Creation - I can have a deeply spiritual experience.

I wouldn't expect everyone to understand this. Everyone has their own ways of embracing and interpreting their experiences. Mine are right for me. I learn from them, grow from them, understand from them and develop deeper relationship with Jesus from them.

I feel it more around Easter time, but I understand what you are saying. That is why I enjoy different holidays, gives us a chance to really think about God and family and His creation.
