BUT, there always has to be a but, my GPA is a 3.2, and I am not in a hard major (English). I know they have a public policy program for officers (as my mother was an officer in that particular field), but anyway, I don't really want to ask my mom about it, because I am not even sure I want to join, and I know if I couldn't just go in as an officer I wouldn't want to join at all. I don't know, I just wondered if I had any chance, I guess.

I enlisted in the Navy with a BA in math. I opted for enlisting rather than an officer program because I wasn't sure I wanted to make the commitment.

When I reenlisted somebody found my degree and recommended me for OCS.

Spent 25 years in and retired at 45.

That said, that's MY story. I don't know you. I can't tell you what to do, or what's best for you. You want to be an officer, you have to learn how to make decisions. That goes with responsibility.

I'll tell you something I didn't learn in OCS. An officer is not a director. In the Navy he's a facilitator. If you've learned how to research, assimilate information, analyze data, formulate plans, communicate, and make decisions, then you could have a degree in hop-scotch. The major doesn't make the difference. It's the man.

You want an officer program, get off your tail and go for it. You have a better chance of getting what you want if you go after it than if you wait for it to come to you.

Here's where you start:

Find out all you can... about the programs, about the opportunity... about the life... If you have a specific question check my profile. My information is a little dated, but I'll be glad to help if I can.

they take about 50 PAOs per year. your GPA is squeaking borderline. depending on what else you bring to the table, you might have a shot. However, you may not be offered PAO, they might offer you Supply, or even SWO. wouldyou take that if they were offered, or do you only want PAO?

make sure you speak to an OFFICER accessions Recruiter..Navy uses two different recruiters for Os and Es.
