the job i got is one of the 5 that i picked at meps, but it wasnt my top. so i picked this job but only cause i was pretty sure i was gonna get security forces. im still joining though. the recruiter also said that if a security forces job comes up in the next few months before i ship that he will put me up for it, but idk how likely that it. also he said that when i graduated from boot camp that when i sit with the counselors i could also request SF then as well.

Everyone is right about one thing the recruiter is trying to fill a slot. It may be based on a critical need job or it may be on a manning percentage need. give the job you got a chance, at least a year. then, if you still want to go security, put in for a transfer. If nothing else, you atleast have more training and qualifications for your resume.

Once upon a time, the AF determined job selection for new recruits based upon need, and the applicant's qualifications. For example, if at the time you applied for your jobs, the AF had a greater need for an avionics person, and you scored the minimum necessary to qualify, they would assign you a job in the avionics career-field.
The AF recruiters are usually supplied with a critical skills listing, which prioritizes those jobs that are projected to have shortages. If you're a volunteer for a job on the critical list, and you meet the qualifications, you'll most likely be selected. But, if you asked for jobs in areas that aren't projected to have severe shortages, normally, you'll be assigned to a critical skills job, provided you otherwise qualify. The needs of the Air Force will always come ahead of personal desires. But, you don't have to accept the job offered by the AF. You can ask to be placed on a delayed-waiting list, that allows you to defer enlistment, until there's a job opening in one of the AFSCs you've requested. I can't imagine you'd have to wait too long for a job in security forces to become available.
Anyway, talk with your recruiter, and see what he can do for you. It's not until you sign on the dotted line that they quit trying to please you.

good luck

Don't go into SF, you will be miserable.

Though this is the first I've ever heard of someone scoring too high. You're recruiter may be triyng to fill a critically manned career field. If you really want SF, go to another recruiter... ask around

Recruiter is definetely trying to screw you to fill up a quota-in-need in a different job.

I got a 77score. When I went infantry, there were several people in my platoon in BCT that had 99score. Keep in mind Infantry has the lowest asvab score requirement.

My recruiter told me straight up when I told him I might want to be an MP after already telling him I want to do Infantry, he said sorry my juvenille record will keep me from the security clearance... he didn't even try.

He's lying.

Wow, I can't for see you having a problem with being an SP, there are always looking for one. If you really want to be one, go to another recruiter, you should go for the job you want because cross training is not very easy.
