Chauncey
English: American coinage from a well-known New England surname. It seems to have been originally chosen as a given name in honour of the Harvard College president Charles Chauncy (1592-1672), the New England clergyman Charles Chauncy (1705-87), or the naval officer Isaac Chauncey (1772-1840). All these men were almost certainly descended from a single family; the surname is found in England in the Middle Ages, and probably has a Norman baronial origin, but now seems to be extinct in Britain.

I don't know about all these claims of it being an English name. It would be news to my Uncle CJ who was born in France and left as a refugee during WWII. It's very much a French name and comes from the French nickname for Chancellor. If you want a regional attachment to it, my Uncle CJ was from Preny Meurthe-et-Moiselle in the province of Lorraine (far east near the German border). Be very proud of that name.
