Yes. There is no more dedicated and technically professional service in the world than the United States Navy. I'm not sure what you mean by "seaman officer." The normal rank on graduation is Seaman. If you are at the top of your class, you may graduate as Petty Officer Third Class. Either way, you're on your way up the enlisted ranks. To be an officer, you have to graduate from the US Naval Academy or one of the college Navy ROTC programs. A few long-service highly skilled enlisted men are also commissioned to help keep their professional skills available to the Navy. They are called "Mustangs." talk to your local Navy recruiter for all the details.

I have never heard of a "seaman officer"but I have been out of the Navy for a few years so it s different now.As for joining the Navy I would saw that 99% of the former sailors never regreted their decision to join.GOOD LUCK

Yes. The Navy is a great branch to be in. My husband is a retired Navy Chief. He learned MANY thing that he has been able to use in the real-world job market.
Seriously, ANY of the branches you might join will be something to be proud of, but the Navy and Airforce are better at giving you practical training that you can use when you get out.

If you want to be called "Seaman" and live in a closet for six months then join the Navy. Check out the Airforce.

You sound unsure of yourself .
It is your decision .
Do some more research . Read everything before you sign !
Get all promises in writing and signed !!
Go over every bonus sign on with a fine tooth comb
( or lawyer )!
Ask lots of questions if you are uncomfortable with any answer
do more research on that .
You can not just quit the military like a bad JOB .

Taking a poll on Yahoo answers about such a serious decision might not be a good idea, unless you've made the decision already.

If you like spending long days without seeing land, then yes. Take it from me, I did it about twenty years ago--saw a lot of neat places, but spent too much time in the middle of nowhere (the ocean).
