cause more pollution in the environment?

I am having a fight with someone over the use of the iphone, and one of their points was that the factories in which the iphones are made causes more pollution in the environment. I don't exactly know more than what...but does it actually cause an excessive amount of pollution?

Greenpeace has an ongoing program to assess and reduce the amount of toxic chemicals in electronics products and to convince manufacturers to replace the worst toxics with safer substitutes. Last fall, Greenpeace actually disassembled an iPhone to find out what's inside it. You can view the report of our findings at http://www.greenpeace.org/raw/content/international/press/reports/iPhones-hazardous-chemicals.pdf.

For a more general overview of the issue of toxic eWaste, you can check out our website, http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/campaigns/toxics/hi-tech-highly-toxic, or check out the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition, www.svtc.org, which also does work in this field.
