Ever since my friend lost his job several months ago, (he won't say why, but his boss told me he couldn't control his profanity in front of the customers) he has barricaded himself in his apartment.

The late and eviction notices are piling up on his door. He sneaks out occasionally only to get booze and junk food. He sounds very depressed. (I communicate by phone, which is the only way to reach him.)

He told me he had been taking anti-depressants, but stopped because they didn't work, and he can't afford them.

I keep recommending professional help, occasionally he agrees, but mostly he gets very agitated, screams at me for being a "traitor" and hangs up.

I used to hunt with him when we were younger, so he probably has firearms in his apartment. He's hinted that the day he becomes "homeless" will be his last day on Earth.

I'm really in a quandary about how to help him??

Call the police and put an anonymous tip in. Tell them he has firearms and is acting irate and suicidal. They can check it out themselves. Other than that, call his family. Let them know what is happening.

I would suggest you contact the police and tell them about your friend's circumstances, your conversations with him, his familiarity with firearms and the possibility that he is armed and prepared to kill himself and/or others when he is finally evicted.

It sounds like your friend may be having a psychotic episode. This means he needs help from a medical professional who specializes in psychiatric disorders. If you don't try to get your friend the help he needs, he may die and other innocent people may die.

If you really are his friend, you'll get the police involved before it gets to that level. If there is an offense for which the police can arrest your friend, then that will get him in front of a judge who can order him to submit to a psychiatric evaluation. That would be the first step in getting him some badly needed medical treatment.

Is there any of his family members you could call? I mean, able to communicate with his family comfortably. I would start there and see if they can talk some sense into him. I know you don't want to see your friend hurt himself or anyone else, but don't try helping him alone. If he is severely depressed, you don't know what he's thinking or how he could re-act.. you already said he yelled at you on the phone. He needs to see a professional yes, but start with someone close to him in his family and go from there..Good luck to you.

Short of finding him a job, where profanity wont be an issue, I dont think you can. Maybe ask the samaritans to give him a call.

in user-friendly terms one area of this caught out to me... You suggested you're able to get help for him yet he would not desire to be embarrassed? Honey, if he somewhat skill as plenty to you because it style of feels like he does, you will get help in spite of how he might experience approximately that. do not mess around with issues like this, they're to be taken very heavily. i'm not a psychic, i'm very intuitive nonetheless and that i will enable you to already know that your pal is hurting plenty and seems particularly manic-depressive that's a psychological malfunction. If he has intense highs, and intense lows it shows that possibly something is off stability in his strategies. Please, get help on your pal. do not improve up his thoughts with the help of telling him you're able to kill your self if he did because of the fact then he will experience responsible approximately that... specific, the full challenge is undesirable yet you are able to help end it in the previous something terrible happens. reliable success, save us reported! There are suicide hotlines too, possibly he could call considered one of them!

u can try to get him to turn himself into the mental hospital and this is not a joke. there he will be watched for suicidal tendencies, he will be fed, and have a roof over his head and get some counseling. they could probably help him apply for cheap or free medical insurance to pay for the antidepressants. good luck

Ohh my, your friend is in quite a mess. You need to contact a professional like a doctor or a therapist to see what they can do for him.

get a group of friends and get him out of the apartment, staying in that room is making him sicker, not better, he needs to get his feelings out.

good luck!
