Please explain what happened to end the Ice Age ? Green
house gases from industrialization and SUV's certainly didn't
cause it to end. Obviously, man had nothing to do with that, so why suddenly is man the cause of global warming ? I think it is
all a huge scam by scientists to continue receiving grant money, thereby justifying their existance. Your thoughts ?

Clint : Great job of politicizing my question. It's a shame you have no clue about me. It's sadly obvious you have let politics cloud your mind to the point that you have to be rude. This isn't a political question.

Co-author John Christy said: “Satellite data and independent balloon data agree that atmospheric warming trends do not exceed those of the surface. Greenhouse models, on the other hand, demand that atmospheric trend values be 2-3 times greater. We have good reason, therefore, to believe that current climate models greatly overestimate the effects of greenhouse gases. Satellite observations suggest that GH models ignore negative feedbacks, produced by clouds and by water vapor, that diminish the warming effects of carbon dioxide

>> Why when the Head of NASA speaks out against it, is he pressured into silence? Michael Griffin (who is not the "head" of NASA) did not speak out against global warming. In fact, he conceded in that interview (linked below) that it is happening and it is man-made. What he said that was controversial was that he doesn't think humans will be able to do much to control the climate of our planet. He questioned philosophically whether we even should. He was pressured into silence and apology because he works for an organization that STUDIES climate change, and it's not his place to make policy decisions on what to do with that data. Personally, I respect his right to free speech, but the dangerous thing that happens is that people take his comments out of context, like you have. >> Why if it is so true won't any one ever debate it openly? The debate has been going on in scientific journals since the 70's. The public has not been interested or educated enough to follow it. At least now, a larger percentage of the population is interested, but the real problem today, as quoted by Newsweek "is not ignorance of the fact that Earth revolves around the sun once a year (something 25 percent of adult Americans do not know). 'It's that people don't understand what is and isn't science' [Alan Leshner, American Association for the Advancement of Science]." The senate has hearings on this every year, and those hearings, which are rife with the open debate you so desire, were started, in part, thanks to your pal Al Gore.

An increase in solar radiation reversed the ice age. How do we know it's not that now? Trivial. We measure the Sun.

Climatologists know all about changes in the Sun, which are measured by many independent people. Solar radiation has actually been decreasing a bit lately. Proof:

climate forcings and the global mean surface
air temperature", Lockwood and Frolich (2007), Proc. R. Soc. A

There are a few skeptics. What intelligent person would bet their well being on them being right, and the vast majority of scientists (backed by EVERY scientific organization) wrong? World leaders have made their decision about that.

Ice ages, and inter-glacial periods, are triggered by small changes in Earth's orbit called Milankovitch cycles, or "orbital forcing". Because Earth's orbit can be computed for thousands of years into the past and future, we know that orbital forcing peaked 6000 years ago, during the Holocene Maximum, and has been slowly cooling the planet since then. Here is the science:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/207/4434/943

It works like this. Right now, Earth reaches perihelion (the closest point to the Sun in its elliptical orbit) in January. Since the Earth moves faster in its orbit at perihelion, that makes winter the shortest season in the Northern Hemisphere. But the point of perihelion changes slowly over time.

Suppose that perihelion were in July instead: that would make winter the longest season in the northern hemisphere, which would leave more of the northern continents snow-covered for more of the year, which would in turn reflect more sunlight back into space, which would cool the planet. This is called ice-albedo feedback.

So here's what ends an ice age: (1) perihelion passage changes toward winter; (2) shorter winters mean less snow cover; (3) less snow cover means we absorb more energy from the Sun; (4) as the oceans warm, they are able to hold less CO2; (5) as oceans give up more CO2, greenhouse effect increases; (6) and finally, as greenhouse effect increases, natural warming kicks into high gear.

Now we've upset the natural cycle by pumping huge amounts of fossil-derived CO2 into the air.

Today here is what we know: Blacktop (roads and parking lots) and buildings heat cities; Air pollution causes lung (and other) diseases, deforestation causing more destruction (duststorms, hurricanes/cyclones all increasing deforestation) and destroys the ozone layer while heating earth surface; fires cause mud slides, deforestation and pollution-more heating surface temperatures; CFC's destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates and killing off endanger species and increased surface temperatures; lighting produces ozone near the surface and raises air pollution levels-more heating; the suns increased magnetic field are causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great distruction), sun spots and leading to more heating. Cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production causes pollution, warmer temperatures and destruction. But most of this is in our control outside of the sun (Volcanoes, sun spots and earthquakes are part of the sun magnetic strength): We need to fix our part! That is why I founded CoolingEarth.org an geoengineering web sight. The USA Mayor's are on the right track, we can have control and economic growth. The fed gov is way out of step-even Congress. We also need a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. Where we are with global warming has never happened before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models are having to be made with little evidence!

I think that a lot of people that drive SUVs and pollute want to think that global warming is fake because they don't want to acknowledge that they are ruining the world of their children. Most of the the Ice ages was caused by a change in earth's orbit making it temporarily further away from the sun. This caused sun's energy not to reach us as much. Also, obviously, you need to get your facts right on this issue if you want to dispute hundreds of scientists because there were at least 4 major ice ages and countless other small ones.

By the way, this article does conclude that man is forcing the climate. It finds that we are forcing it less than the IPCC believes.
