Kindly explain in a bit more detail, Atheism is simply the lack of belief in a higher power.
EDIT - In response to your clarification, yes, it's possible for an Atheist to turn to violence as religious people do, but statistically, it is far less likely as Atheists rarely if ever seek to win converts to their cause as most understand that such conversion is ultimately futile.

Atheism is not a religion and contrary to popular theist centered belief it is not an anti - religion. Atheism involves simply a person that does not have belief in deities. I feel if a person is bent toward violence, bigotry, low self esteem, self hate and ignorance and then turn around and become part of a group or organization that fosters and caterers to that behavior than they lose their humanity and become a puppet with the purpose of living until the master of the puppet decides to cut the strings over a lava pit, to make room for the new puppets in their collection.

I suppose it would be possible for "militant atheists" to take the law into their own hands. However, I see no evidence of a trend in that direction, do you? The only place I see atheists behaving in a deliberately hostile and provocative manner, is here at Y/A. Elsewhere, they mostly just want to be left alone, free to believe or not believe as they choose.
The idea of atheism as a religion is new to me. I imagine that atheists would challenge it.

I assume you mean above and beyond where the consciousness lives.
YES.
If an atheist believes in evolution, evolution explains the emergence of mind. There is no end to the process as long as life endures.
We are but a brief step up the stairway to a supreme being.
Let's all be better than we have been, GOD is waiting to be born.

Sure, believe there is a supernatural power. In some constructions of religiosity, atheism is at the bottom of the chart. Therefore, even thinking about a supernatural being would be considered "going beyond."

What you have been hearing are lies because atheism is not a religion. It is just like creationists trying to claim the earth is only 10,000 years old. They can keep repeating it but it is not going to change the facts.

I believe so. People who spend every minute here, refreshing the screen so they can come up with a snide remark to anyone's sincere question on religion are far beyond "atheism." If they truly do not believe in God, why are they so obsessed with something that doesn't exist?

How so?
[Edit]
By beyond, I assume that you mean over presue its goals - yes, it's very possible. Atheists can discriminate against religious people, to the point of actively demeaning and conspiring against them. Further, Atheists can move to enact laws outlawing religion (similar to the Soviet Union, China, or North Korea).

I love how you compare the 10 people who died in abortion clinic bombings in total to the thousands on US soil alone, and the hundreds of thousands who die yearly globally by the ones who fly planes into buildings. And if you have to go back 950 years to get more "real" stats...thats back too far in my opinion.

Its been argued that nihilism is the step beyond atheism. Moving from a disbelief in God to the idea that not only is there no God, NOTHING exists and NOTHING matters.
