She's 7 months old and just got trained to be out of the crate while I'm at work all day.

Don't leave her alone with it. If she shows ANY interest in it what-so-ever while you're there, go back to using your crate until the holidays are over. There are just too many dangerous risks and if you think there's even the slightest chance that she might chew on the tree, ornaments, lights, or presents you shouldn't even give her the opportunity. The holiday's are stressful enough for both humans and dogs, you don't need emergency vet visits to add to the stress.

If you think she would respect the boundaries, you could try putting an x-pen around the tree, or putting up a baby gate to block the door to the room while you're gone.

If she has an issue with the tree, it may be best to crate her. If not make sure you leave the lights unplugged and the cord up in the tree. If she responds to the leave it command- tell her to leave it when she goes near the tree. You can also try BitterApple spray as a deterrent.
The worst obstruction I saw in a surgery was several glass ball ornaments that a lab scarfed down while the owner was gone.

My kitten use to do that every year without fail! I'd find decorations all over the house that she'd pinched off the tree!!
I'm not sure if the same products will work but it's worth a shot! Try a product called Bitter Apple on the tree - you can get it from most petshops.

Either that or you could maybe try to put a small fence around the outside of your tree (sorta like a kids playpen?) that way she won't be able to get near it.

You could gate off the area where the tree is so she doesn't have access to it. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and 2 gates so the dogs have to stay in there area of the house and the cats have the other area for themselves. 1 of my cats is 17 years old and doesn't want to bother with the dogs unless she feels like it--also--this way, the dogs can't eat all the cats's food.

try putting up a barrier. i've had these problems in the past with things other then christmas trees, make a fence like and teach her to stay away from it awhile your at home, or lay right infront of it and praise her when she does the correct thing. if not you may want to put things on the tree a little higher up for the time being.

Keep her in the crate for 2 more weeks unless you want a surprise when you come home.

Try putting it in another room with a gate while you are gone if you don't want to crate it

Practice this, anytime he goes near the tree, yell no! real loud. You need to do it like all day long until he gets it. Or buy a loud horn, and every time he goes near, use the loud horn and say no!. If you repeat this it just might help you. I'm sure it will. You need to use the horn right near his face, he will hate that and will think that every time he goes near this will happen.

Good luck.

Dogs are naturally repelled by the smell of lemon. I spray a little lemon pledge on things I want them to stay away from.
