I'm 14, female, healthy, and as active as any normal kid. But about twice a week I have spontaneous leg pain - sometimes the left, sometimes the right, never both. It's a shooting pain, when I put pressure on it or move it in a certain way it just shoots down - sometimes making me fall over of immobile. It's usually from the top of my thigh to just above my knee. I have no idea why it happens - does anyone have a similar problem or some idea of what might be wrong?

There are a number of possibilities for what could be causing this such as arthritis (there are certain types that can affect children as well) or an irritated nerve.

Please let your mom know what's going on as well and also your doctor so that they can evaluate this situation further to see what they think it is.

It could be a DVT, but that seems unlikely. It could also be posterior tibialis tendonitis. It could also be tarsal tunnel syndrome (nerve compression) or another vascular problem. I would consider seeing a doctor.
